Fortnite throws tons of competitive events, but having them all so open in a game where millions of players join every day… there’s occasionally a Fortnite cheater competing. It’s become a much bigger problem in more recent seasons. With Epic taking drastic steps to keep tournaments safe from Fortnite cheaters.
Lately, that’s increasingly meant taking direct action against players who cheat in tournaments. Tonight, they’ve announced they’ve caught another one.
In recent months, we’ve seen quite a few high profile Fortnite cheaters caught. One player who had a following in the Fortnite competitive community even had to record a message, urging others not to cheat, as part of the settlement. Another had his results from the FNCS stripped away. This recent Fortnite cheater though has had a serious ban happen, along with a substantial fine.
Since Epic has decided to start addressing the cheating problems with full force, they’ve gone beyond bans. They now take cheaters to court. To get a settlement out of the Fortnite cheater, and set a public precedence to try and warn off future rule breakers. That’s come with more restrictions to try and control who actually enters Fortnite tournaments in C6 S3 too.
This more recent Fortnite cheater, lost the court case. The player has been fined $175,000. Definitely a higher number than most players manage to win in tournaments. Of course, with all those skins and Battle Pass sales… Epic isn’t exactly hurting for cash at the moment. They’ve said they’ll be donating the fine to charity. Which is standard for how they approach Fortnite cheaters and a welcome move.
THIS JUST IN: The Judge ruled in our favor after the cheater ignored our lawsuit. The player is required to pay $175,000 and we’ll donate what we collect to charity. They are also banned from playing Fortnite forever. https://t.co/on0dYWBdq4

The player will also get a lifetime ban from playing Fortnite. Epic did recently roll back a few of these bans though… which kind of defeats the purpose. A ton of older cheaters got let back in this year. But they are banned from tournaments forever. This player’s lifetime ban is being termed as forever too. So, we can expect they’re gone for good.
It’s not the only step against cheats that Epic is taking though.
Fortnite’s cheating problem reached a head in Chapter 5. Epic decided to start approaching things with a tougher stance. To start, they’ve begun taking legal action against cheaters but also the developers and sellers of the cheats. Cutting them off at the supply would go a long way towards helping.
Then there’s taking action against cheaters themselves. Taking away prize money, and banning them. Although, none of this has stopped a cheater winning multiple FNCS Majors this Chapter. They did get caught though, eventually!

It seems the efforts are starting to yield more and more results. Most games that are this popular tend to develop some cheating problems. Other Battle Royales are crawling with them. Fortnite’s steps have largely locked them out of tournament money though. But it has come at the expense of a wider, more open tournament structure.
Right now, we rarely get the depth of Cash Cups and tournaments that we used to. They were cut because Epic decided some formats were so casual, that it was easier to stop offering them than cut out every Fortnite cheater from winning cash. It’s a shame that we can’t have these smaller tournaments anymore. Hopefully, if this push continues, we might reach a stage where these tournaments can come back.
