This season is bringing back a full-length competitive season, with small events and another FNCS Major after the time off. Even if you’re not playing at the highest level though, there’s still a few Fortnite tournaments to look forward to. This is how competitive is going to work in the current Fortnite season:

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 Tournaments Explained

A new season for Fortnite tournaments has begun, along with a new Fortnite Ranked season. It’s a similar line up of tournaments to the last two seasons, but there’s been some changes. One of the biggest is to the Ranked Cups, an opportunity for everyone to win a competitive cosmetic. These events are getting bigger changes this season.

The biggest slice of the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 tournaments is the FNCS Divisional Cups! We took a month off, but we’ll now get to see who the final teams are which will make it to the LAN this year. The FNCS will begin with the Divisional Cups stage, which has been truncated a little this time.

Rather than the normal bigger format, we’ll only get two Divisional Cups in the Fortnite C6 S3 esports. These will be events where players compete based on the Division they’ve hit. With those in the top division at the end will move onto the Groups and Finals. The FNCS Play In begins on July 16th. We’ll see the teams whittled down in each of the Fortnite server regions for this season, until we’re left with just a single lobby for the Finals where the best Fortnite players go head-to-head.

Fortnite tournaments are bringing back the Ranked Cups this tie, but with a change. In the past these cups were divided up by your Fortnite ranks. So, players in low ranks like Gold were up against similar players. However, Epic has said that this caused problems with matchmaking. Meaning tournaments were difficult to find full lobbies for. Instead, they’re getting combined this time.

The new Fortnite Ranked Cups will see players queueing up into lobbies of all ranks. Matchmaking will try to prioritize players at a similar skill level, just like in any other mode. However, it won’t only use a specific rank. These are more general tournaments again rather than tied to your rank.

One difference though, is that the leaderboard for these Fortnite tournaments will remain tied to each Ranked tier. Which might complicate things a bit. As usual, the big prize for Fortnite C6 S3 esports Ranked Cups is the Ranked brella. A gold version of the Victory Brella, called Ranker’s Utopia Umbrella.

Fortnite Console Victory Cash Cup Tournaments

A returning tournament type for those on Console. This is a specific offering that is or those on the other platforms, so no PC players required. It is a different format to your standard Cash Cup though. Players will need to get a Victory Royale if they want to get any cash.

This is a two stage events. Players compete in a first round to qualify for the second. In the second, every win has a cash prize. These events are open to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and One. Plus, the new Fortnite Nintendo Switch 2. If that console’s mouse like controls are workable, that could make a big difference to these tournaments.

PlayStation Cups

Another Fairly new format for the Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 tournaments are the PlayStation Cups. These are PlayStation specific events. There’s a qualifying round and a Final on July 26th. But unlike the other console cups, these ones have a full prize pool. You don’t have to rely on winning to get a cash prize.

No Solo Events This Season

The biggest absence in the Fortnite tournaments this season, is solo events.
The highest level of the game with the best Fortnite teams competing, have been in multiple player formats for most of the game’s life, but there’s normally individual Cash Cups and events which cater to Solos. What’s happened this time then?

There aren’t going to be Solo Cash Cups at all this season, but Epic hasn’t given an explanation for the absence. It likely stems from the changes they made to Fortnite tournaments earlier this Chapter. They cut down on smaller events which were being abused by cheaters, which were often Solo tournaments.

Since we now get fewer normal tournaments each season, the Solo events don’t seem to have been included at all this season. Hopefully we get some back in the future. With the FNCS cut down this season slightly too though, it does seem we’re getting fewer events than normal for Chapter 6 Season 2.
