With the latest Fortnite update there’s a ton of new features including quite a bit in the item shop. But there’s also a free Fortnite emote and backbling available! You need to claim the free Fortnite webshop rewards to get both of them. It’s not like a normal free skin or item, this one needs to be unlocked through a completely different platform.
The Fortnite Item Shop is available on every platform. But not every platform has the same set-up for prices. Console platform providers take a percentage. In the past, mobile platforms used to take their cut too. Epic was so angry about paying a commission they led a years-long legal case against smartphone platforms. However, with consoles they’ve pretty much accepted they owe a percentage. Their strategy here is to try and get players not to use that shop, and instead use the Fortnite webshop where they get everything.
The Fortnite webshop is a more recent development to the game. It’s the exact same as the shop in-game and on console, but accessed through the website. Then, you get free Fortnite webshop rewards. There’s a cashback program that’s ongoing, but Epic is now offering a free emote and backbling too. This is how it works:
New Free Fortnite Emote
Head into the item shop at the moment and you can claim a new free emote! It’s another heart based emote. Not the most exciting but free is free. You can get this one any platform, but it does work well with the free Fortnite webshop rewards offer going on at the moment. It’s an emote which has been given out before. So some players might already have it unlocked for free.
Scrolling through the item shop, you can find one item which is free for all players. Provided they’re on this platform. All you then need to do is click purchase, for 0 V-Bucks. Then you’ll get the new free Fortnite emote. All you need to do is go through the official Epic website, rather than scrolling through the item shop on any platform you normally use.
Going through the web shop you’ll get the free Fortnite emote! But there are some other rewards for using this platform too.
Free Fortnite Webshop Rewards – Backbling
Alongside the free emote, there’s some special items which you’ll only receive if you go through the web-shop. If you make a purchase with V-Bucks on the Fortnite webshop, you’ll get a free Goldskull Peel Pack backbling. It’s basically a banana with gold skulls on it. A cool enough backbling. Quite similar to some past back blings but it would work for characters like Midas or some of the best Fortnite skins with its color scheme.
The free Fortnite webshop rewards are just for this platform. You can’t get it by purchasing something anywhere else. So it won’t appear for claiming something on console or anywhere else.
There’s another promotion that’s ongoing on the web shop too. At the end of each month, you get a percentage of your V-Bucks spend in the web shop back! This essentially means it’s discounting the price by this amount, eventually. Making the web shop 20% cheaper than other platforms. That’s roughly what console makers take as their cut for their storefronts, so it’s same price for Epic but a little cheaper for players.
With these kinds of free Fortnite webshop rewards, Epic is trying to entice all players into leaving the in-game shop. Essentially to stop console makers getting their cut. When it results in free cosmetics for the player though, who can complain.
