Fortnite has finally added the long-rumoured pets to the game, and even though they’ve only been here a short time, we’ve already got tons of Fortnite sidekicks. Between all the different ones and their customization options, it can be tricky to keep track of! These are all of the Fortnite Sidekicks added to the game so far.

All Fortnite Sidekicks Explained

Sidekicks are a feature in Fortnite now that have been rumoured for a long time. We’ve had leaks about this feature all Chapter. But they’ve finally shown up with the Simpsons Mini Season. They launched with an initial sidekick, a Peely themed dog. The feature hasn’t been without controversy. Especially with the pricing of the Fortnite sidekicks and customization. It seems Epic is pushing ahead releasing tons of new sidekicks anyway.

We’ve had a huge mix of different animals so far. Although, there’s been a major focus on dogs, and some fans have noticed cats are missing. These are all of them that have come into the game so far:

Free Fortnite Sidekicks

Those are all Fortnite sidekicks but have we had any free ones yet? Not really. Although a lot of players likely got one without paying directly.

The first Fortnite Sidekick, Peels, was part of a Battle Pass. It was actually two rewards in the same Battle Pass. So, some players got it instantly with the premium one, and others got it later in a different tier. The second reward was the same dog, but you could pick a second set of customization. It seemed we got two to try and get the Fortnite player base into the habit of buying multiple versions of the same Fortnite sidekicks.

Unless you had the premium Battle Pass though, you couldn’t get these Fortnite sidekicks. Free players don’t get this cosmetic. Eventually they’ll probably add a free sidekick though. We’ve had tons of free skins over the years. plenty of other items, it’s just a matter of time until a sidekick comes too. Maybe even for Winterfest 2025.

Fortnite Sidekick Customization

Fortnite Sidekicks are a new form of cosmetic item and one which has customization at its core. Most sidekicks have a lot of different options to change up how it’s designed.

There’s a set of options you can change initally. But you also need to unlock some. Sidekicks have their own currency that they just earn through matches. You then trade it in for customization options.

It works quite simply. When you get a sidekick, you have the option of setting up your customization. You pick and choose various attributes to make the sidekick your own. Once you’ve customized it though, it’s locked in forever. Players can’t adjust as their tastes change like for other items.

It is this factor that’s been most unpopular about Fortnite sidekicks. Ultimately these are purely cosmetic items though. It’s difficult to argue they’re the most overpriced ones so far either, considering kicks exist. Especially considering how little they actually do in-game.

How Do Sidekicks Work?

The Fortnite sidekicks don’t do anything in-game. Other players in your lobby don’t even see them. Only teammates.

The reason behind this makes sense, it would increase the load on the server a bit too much. Players already over optimize to get a better FPS in Fortnite, so doubling the number of player characters just to sell some dog skins probably wouldn’t be very popular.

This does also mean the impact of Fortnite Sidekicks has been quite limited though. Players can’t do anything that other players would need to see with them. So, it’s limited to the purely cosmetic, otherwise they’d be an unfair advantage in-game.

Fortnite sidekicks do have quite a limited effect on the game itself. They won’t make or break your performance, but if you love the player customization options this is another area to play with.
