Something even more shocking than the Team Liquid elimination from yesterday just happened at the Esports World Cup Dota 2 tournament.

Esports World Cup Dota 2: Team Spirit knock out PARIVISION convincingly

PARIVISION, the one team that has remained undefeated through the entire ESL Pro Tour (EPT) season up to this point (as far as LANs are concerned), just got demolished by Team Spirit in incredible fashion.

Game 1 — Last pick Lesh does the trick

I gotta say, this hero Leshrac is going up in stock in the EWC Dota 2 meta, even though the stats don’t exactly favor him right now. He’s only won around 43% of his games this far with six wins and eight losses throughout the event. But in Game 1 of this series, Leshrac was the perfect last pick for Denis “Larl” Sigitov, who used the hero to really put the hurt on PARIVISION through the mid game.

On the other hand, PARIVISION picking offlane Ogre Magi for Dmitry “DM” Dorokhin just wasn’t the play. Going Hand of Midas only to buy Pipe of Insight and Crimson guard anyway kinda defeats the purpose, and PARIVISION, sorry “P-vision”, got punished for the pick. Volodymyr “No[o]ne” Minenko getting solo killed in the mid lane didn’t help either, as he was never able to get his core items at a good timing.

With Larl running amok, it was just another day in the office for Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk and his Nature’s Prophet, whose 901 gold per minute stat helped plenty in keeping the rest of the game out of reach.

Game 2 — Team Spirit, or the Indiana Pacers?

If any of you are basketball fans like myself, you’ll get the above comparison right away. This Spirit squad just seems completely unbeatable even when they’re down, which they were for about 20 minutes in the second game. This was in no small part thanks to PARIVISION drafting much, much better than they did in the first game, with the Dazzle and Death Prophet combination from DM and No[o]ne respectively helping them take early control.

Alan “Satanic” Gallyamov was also having a good game as the position 1 Doom, and for a while it looked like PARIVISION would tie up the series and likely move on to the grand final thereafter. But like Tyrese Haliburton and the rest of the Indiana Pacers, Spirit just get even stronger when their backs are against the wall.

Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov started the comeback as Primal Beast — which by the way is another hero that is looking better and better the later this tournament goes. He served as the primary initiator for the team as he usually does, and did a stellar job of it. He kept No[o]ne, Satanic, and DM from just playing freely in teamfights, which allowed Spirit to just chip away at PARIVISION’s lead worth nearly 10,000 gold.

Suddenly, things were looking bleak for PARIVISION, and when you start to lose your grip on the late game with a Doom on your team, you know you’re probably not going to win.

PARIVISION’s run to the grand final at the Esports World Cup is therefore cut short, but they aren’t completely out of the tournament yet. They will get a chance to play for third place tomorrow, facing whoever loses between Team Falcons and Tundra Esports.
