DreamLeague Season 24 has now seen its first group stage come and go, with eight teams eliminated and eight teams remaining in the competition. The results so far have been more or less what we expected given how each team stacks up against the others in the DreamLeague power rankings, with only one or two shockers to begin the tournament with.

DreamLeague Season 24: What to Look Out For in Group Stage 2

Group Stage 2 is just around the corner, starting on November 1st with BetBoom Team versus Tundra Esports. We’ve got the lowdown on what’s happened so far and what to expect moving forward in DreamLeague.

Gaimin Gladiators and Heroic: Gone With the Wind

The mighty seem to have fallen early in this new Dota 2 season. Gaimin Gladiators failed to make the playoffs at DreamLeague Season 24 by a hair’s breadth, losing out to BetBoom Team by just one map win in the Group A standings. This is a far cry from what we’ve come to anticipate from them, given how dominant they’ve been over the past two years.

True enough, kicking Anton “dyrachyo” Shkredov is proving more and more to be a mistake with each passing day. They’re going to have to figure things out with Alimzhan “watson” Islambekov soon, or they may find themselves slipping down the food chain and into mediocrity.

Heroic gets a pass here, as they don’t really have the same amount of talent across the board compared to Gaimin. It’s unfortunate that they weren’t able to convert the momentum they gathered from PGL Wallachia Season 2 into a playoff appearance at DreamLeague, but momentum can only get you so far if your personnel aren’t up to the task more often than not.

Team Waska: Stepping in For Heroic

Speaking of Heroic, it seems that fellow South American squad Team Waska has decided to carry the region’s banner here, placing second in Group B and proving once again that SA teams can show up in a big way at any given time. They posted the same score as group rival Tundra Esports with 10 wins and 4 losses, giving them an easy pass into the second group stage.

They also have a pretty good matchup in their first Group Stage 2 set, going up against Xtreme Gaming instead of one of the top Western European clubs. Following that, they’ll be playing against PARIVISION, which should be an even contest between them considering how well they’ve both done in the tournament so far.

PARIVISION: A Sleeping Giant?

Now here’s something we didn’t see coming. PARIVISION has taken the tournament by storm, placing first in Group A with a score of 10 wins and 4 losses and looking like a serious top 3 threat. Even if they are one of the 4 new Dota teams at this tournament, this roster contains some of the best the Eastern European scene has to offer, but considering the fact that they didn’t even exist as a squad until two weeks ago, this start is already quite impressive.

Whether or not they’re going to go all the way and beat squads like Team Falcons, Tundra Esports, or Team Liquid is still up in the air, but at least they’ve got plenty of confidence to work with from here on. That said, their first match in Group Stage 2 is against Falcons, so they’ve got their work very much cut out for them right away.
