OK, I can’t have been the only one who was absolutely convinced Train was going to return in the last CS2 patch and was bitterly disappointed when it didn’t right? The notes since we got teased by the official CS2 X account changing their banner image have been underwhelming to say the least. But worry no more because Train has officially returned to active duty!

Train Returns to Active Duty in New CS2 Patch

Changes to Train in CS2 patch

Previously, map changes in CS2 have been barely more than cosmetic and haven’t really affected the gameplay all that much. While the bones of Train do seem similar in this patch, it is going to mechanically affect how rounds are played. Moving through the map takes longer and the positioning of some vertical features is different. It’s definitely going to keep older fans of the map on their toes.

We’ll still have the long angles that this map was known for through, perfect for AWP and Scout enjoyers.

My favorite new feature to train is actually the rain. I haven’t tried it out yet so I’m not sure if the rain is simply atmospheric as opposed to affecting footsteps and mechanics, but I love adding a bit of drama to the map.

Updates to Overpass

The Overpass updates have been rather overshadowed by Train’s return – something the fans have been asking for since CS2 was released back in September 2023. Each individual update in itself is pretty small, there has been a rework on the drop down from heaven mechanics, for example. But they do start to add up.

Some of these features include removing meddlesome trees that “look like player heads” and interfere with line of site at the bomb site. They also made a shelf in heaven “look less like a player” so I guess my excuse that I like to spray and pray isn’t going to count as an excuse for throwing rounds anymore.

Realistically, most of the items on this list are simply small visual improvements but when you’re not constantly giving away your position because of mistaking a lamp for a player, the quality of games on this map should hopefully improve.
