The moment might finally be here, boys. Valve always know what they’re doing and right now, it seems like they’re teasing the return of Train to active duty. There’s always going to be a debate around what the greatest CS2 map is, but if Train isn’t at least a part of that discussion then I don’t want to be involved. Here’s everything we know about the return of Train.

Is Train Coming Back to Counter-Strike?

Is Train coming back?

Train is one of the maps that has yet to migrate across from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to CS2. and for the time being, the return isn’t actually confirmed, just heavily hinted at. The official @CounterStrike X account recently changed its banner picture to one that could easily be from Train. It’s just of the floor though, so it’s kinda hard to tell.

Train maybe

Now assuming we know exactly which map this is from the floor alone is ambitious, it could easily be something like Cache but this isn’t the only clue we have.

Dataminer “AquaIsMissing” has recently found references in the code to “train graffiti”, which could refer to additional visual updates to the map.

Will Train be different in CS2?

The bones of the map are unlikely to change if it’s brought into active duty in CS2. This is a long range map with plenty of tight shots that are perfect for AWP and Scout enjoyers. We don’t expect to see massive changes on type of play the map encourages.

Any updates and changes to the map are likely to be cosmetic only. We’ll likely have improved visuals and a clearer environment and perhaps some new graffiti to find.

And again, Train’s return isn’t guaranteed, as much as I want it to be. It could well be that Cache is released or perhaps Valve are just playing with us before the kick off of the Perfect World Shanghai Major RMRs next week. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see and with Valve time, who knows how long for.
