Two days into the Thunderpick WC 2025 Closed Qualifier, and 16 teams have already been whittled down to just eight. It hasn’t all been smooth sailing, either, with some epic upsets already taking place. We’ve seen the biggest names be sent packing at the earliest opportunity, leaving us with some surprising candidates to make it to the main event.

Due to the way the brackets work, Ninjas in Pyjamas and M80 looked like dead certs to make it through to the main Thunderpick World Championship 2025 LAN. Just two best-of-three wins were required for these teams, who, on paper, were by far the strongest at the event.

However, things really didn’t go as planned for either. NIP would lose to the Polish stack Venom in a convincing 2:0 fashion. Meanwhile, M80 fell to the same scoreline against OG. When you consider how important the Thunderpick WC LAN could be for some of these teams later this year in terms of the VRS, it’s a very rough result for two teams that really should be making it all the way to Malta.

In NIP’s bracket, ENCE fell to Nemiga, setting up a Venom vs. Nemiga clash in tomorrow’s matches. In M80’s bracket, BIG survived a scare against SAW to lock down BIG vs. OG for a spot at the LAN.

Legacy and Imperial were able to take down JiJieHao and TNL respectively, meaning we get two South American teams going head-to-head tomorrow. That should prove to be a spicy matchup for two teams who look in solid form.

The final bracket saw 9z and PARIVISION emerge victorious over BetBoom and ECSTATIC. Those series could have gone either way, but instead, we get a battle between two teams that are no strangers to grinding the online circuit of late, but have seen LAN opportunities limited.

These are the four final matchups for the Thunderpick WC 2025 Closed Qualifier. The winner of these matches will head to the main event in Malta next month.

  • Legacy vs. Imperial
  • Venom vs. Nemiga
  • 9z Team vs. PARIVISION
  • BIG vs. OG
