Falcons narrowly avoid humiliation in the BLAST.tv Austin Major

Well, Falcons are still in the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, but only by the skin of their teeth. After going 0:2 on the first day and ruining just about everyone’s Austin Major Pick’Ems, the team were left just one series away from total embarrassment. An event in which they were comfortable second favorites to win the entire thing, and they were in grave danger of going out without a series win.

In today’s matches, OG awaited, the only team separating Falcons from a genuine horror show run. They were able to see out a 2:1 win and stay alive to at least see tomorrow’s matches, but anyone will tell you it was far from convincing. A few swing rounds here and there, and we were undoubtedly on the verge of a 2:0 OG win, which would have extended NiKo’s decade-long hunt for a Major by at least another six months.

Falcons’ OG win won’t matter if form doesn’t improve

So they’ve beaten OG. Well done. But really, so what? They’ve already lost to B8 and Lynn Vision so far, so edging past an OG team you should be dominating is really nothing to shout about. As a wise woman once said, That Don’t Impress Me Much. Now in the 1:2 bracket, they face a match against MIBR, where survival is on the line all over again.

MIBR are hardly a team with form to write home about, but I’d certainly put them a level above OG based on their Austin showings. If Falcons are unable to buck their ideas up quickly as a collective, then MIBR are a team with enough firepower to punish them dearly. When the stakes are this high, you need to put your best foot forward and get over the hump.

Is it the impending roster changes affecting their form? Is it simply a rough couple of days at the office for Falcons? It’s impossible to say from the outside. All I know as an observer is that it hasn’t been good enough, and while they may have staved off humiliation yet, it could all still come crumbling down.

m0NESY’s out-of-character form must improve for Falcons to have any hope in Austin

It’s usually unfair to put the blame on one individual player. In a team game like Counter-Strike, the buck stops at all five on the server when all is said and done. But the reality is that m0NESY is one of the biggest win conditions for Falcons, and his form at the BLAST.tv Austin Major has been less than stellar, to say the least. Whiffs galore.

At a 0.99 rating, the Austin Major is comfortably m0NESY’s worst performance of the year to date. An AWPer so used to lofty highs that he now finds himself in uncharted territory here. Right now, with Falcons in survival mode, a 0.99 isn’t going to cut the mustard, I’m afraid.

There were better signs of the old m0NESY on the final two maps against OG, and that’s a trend that needs to continue. If he falls back into the form he started the Major with, then Falcons will be taking a swift trip to de_airport over the next couple of days.
