Case Hardened skins are some of CS2’s most desirable knives. Each of the 1,000 patterns on Case Hardened knives features a unique amount of blue on the skin. The ones with the most amount of blue are considered Blue Gems by the community, which are separated further into individual tiers. The Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem is one of the most sought-after knives in the entire game – the Butterfly itself is popular due to its unique animations, but the Blue Gem adds to its rarity and prestige even further.
We’ve already looked at a few other tiers for other knives, like the Karambit and M9 Bayonet. Now, it’s time to look at all the Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem patterns and tiers in CS2.
The community considers the 182 Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem pattern to be the best of all, putting it in a tier of its own. The play side of the knife (the inspect side) is covered almost entirely in blue, and the small Case Hardened areas on the hilt of the knife are majority blue, too. It’s the only Blue Gem pattern that reaches 85% blue, so it’s not an arbitrary measurement. If you get a Butterfly Knife Blue Gem 182 pattern, you’re looking at tens of thousands of dollars, even in low floats.
While Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem tier 1 patterns aren’t quite the 182, they’re very, very close. With these Blue Gem Butterfly Knives, there are only one or two small details that really hold them back from being in that elite tier alongside the 182. Still, though, the difference for the average player will be minimal – it’s only the hardcore collectors who will make a fuss of this.
You’ll find that Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem tier 2 patterns aren’t far away from being tier 1 at all. You’ll find tons of blue on these options, but it’s often spotty with annoying splotches of gold. This goes a long way towards reducing the price of these Blue Gem Butterfly Knives.
With Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem tier 3 patterns, you’re still getting a lot of bang for your buck. Often, these patterns have a lot of blue on the base of the skin, but it’s often interrupted by small gold splotches, making them not quite perfect Blue Gems.
Tier 4 Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem knives are realistically only Blue Gems on a technicality. Yes, they do have splotches of blue, but it’s usually isolated to one small area of the skin. Still, if you want the prestige of saying you’re the proud owner of a Blue Gem Butterfly Knife, then tier 4’s still get the job done.
You can only get a Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem from an Operation Breakout Weapon Case. This costs around $9 for the case itself, plus $2.50 for the key.
It’s simple: the odds are against you in every turn. Getting a knife drop from a case has 0.26% odds, so that’s rare enough. The Butterfly Knife is the only knife found in the Operation Breakout Weapon Case, in which there are 13 knife skins. That’s a 1 in 13 chance of it being Case Hardened, on top of the 0.26% odds. Then factor in the 1 in 1,000 chance that it’ll be a specific Blue Gem pattern. With each stage, it becomes more and more unlikely to unbox a Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem pattern.
The best CS2 Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem pattern is 182. It’s the only Blue Gem pattern where blue covers at least 85% of the skin, which is why it holds this title.
The cost of a Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem depends entirely on two factors: pattern and wear rating. If you have a high-tier Blue Gem pattern, then you’re looking at a lot of money, with 182s frequently selling for tens of thousands of dollars. However, if you’re happy to go with a low-tier and poor wear rating Butterfly Knife Blue Gem, you can usually pick them up for just over $1,000.
While there are technically four Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem tiers, some count the best 182 pattern as being in a fifth tier of its own. It’s a matter of perspective.
You can usually tell instantly by inspecting your Butterfly Knife Case Hardened in-game. If it has a huge blue patch across the blade, then there’s a good chance it’s a Blue Gem. That’s not exactly scientific, though. To know for sure, inspect the weapon in your CS2 inventory. Hover over the small I along the bottom and look for the Pattern Template. If the number matches up with any of the Blue Gems found above, then, yeah, you have a Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem.
The float value affects wear rating (Factory New, Minimal Wear, etc.) and, in turn, this changes the price. A Factory New Blue Gem Butterfly Knife will always be worth more than a Battle-Scarred one. However, with Blue Gems, the pattern is a far better indicator of price. If you have a high-tier Butterfly Knife Case Hardened Blue Gem with a great float, you’re really in the money.
