Riot Games has released patch 12.02 for VALORANT, introducing significant balance adjustments to two popular agents while expanding gameplay mechanics and delivering quality-of-life improvements. The update brings much-needed buffs to Harbor’s entire kit, meaningful nerfs to Reyna’s dominance in ranked play, and introduces concussion mechanics to select agent deployables.
Patch 12.02 expands the concussion mechanic to affect certain Agent ability deployables for the first time. Three deployables can now be concussed:
This change adds a new layer of strategic counterplay, allowing players to disrupt these abilities in ways previously unavailable.
Harbor receives substantial buffs across his entire kit as Riot looks to elevate the controller’s power level. According to the development team, Harbor could use a little bit more power compared to other Controllers. The changes aim to increase the baseline power of his abilities as well as increase the amount of options Harbor has whether that is in Cove uptime, High Tide coverage, or Reckoning placement. Riot wants players to feel confident about the strategies Harbor can offer through his abilities.

Cove
Storm Surge
High Tide
Reckoning
These comprehensive buffs significantly enhance Harbor’s utility, making his smokes more durable and frequent, his wall more imposing, and his ultimate more controllable.
After dominating ranked play for an extended period, Reyna faces targeted nerfs designed to encourage more aggressive play patterns. Riot explains that Reyna has been ever present and dominating pickrates in ranked for a long time. The team is looking to increase proactive requirements on Reyna after she gets a kill to encourage continued aggression.

Soul Orbs (Passive)
Devour
Empress
The most significant change is the temporary overheal from Devour, which now decays after 10 seconds unless activated during her ultimate. Combined with reduced Soul Orb duration and increased ultimate cost, these changes force Reyna players to maintain momentum rather than play passively after securing kills.
Riot has adjusted the appearance of the Social Panel, though specific details about the visual changes weren’t provided in the patch notes.
A new quality-of-life feature arrives in patch 12.02: UI damage indicators now display for objects that take damage while controlled by a player. This applies to abilities like Skye’s Trail Blazer, Tejo’s Stealth Drone, and similar player-controlled deployables, giving operators better awareness of incoming damage.
Riot has made some tweaks to what shows up and when to make things more clear regarding player behavior tracking. Notably, you’ll no longer see an XP/AP Denial under Active Interventions when you leave a Deathmatch, addressing confusion around penalties for leaving casual game modes.

Patch 12.02 represents a careful balancing act, elevating an underperforming controller while reining in a ranked powerhouse. Harbor players will appreciate the increased flexibility and power across his kit, while Reyna mains will need to adapt to a more aggressive, momentum-based playstyle.
