After several months of speculation on the launch date for VALORANT Mobile, Riot Games dropped a bomb on Easter holidays, confirming the game is going to be released. This is everything you need to know about VALORANT Mobile and what this means for the FPS game.

VALORANT Mobile announced, pre-registration activated in China

VALORANT Mobile – The launch is fast approaching

The announcement was initially leaked by accident when the game appeared on the Huawei App Store. “It’s really happening. VALORANT Mobile has been announced with our partner LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS, and we’re bringing it to China. We’re excited to bring VALORANT Mobile to as many players as possible, but we’re starting in China and taking it from there,” said Riot Games on their official X post.

Ever since 2024, there have been several rumors about a mobile version coming to VALORANT. Those claims were confirmed during one of the press conferences at the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) 2024 by Riot themselves, so fans were just waiting for the game to be dropped. Well, it looks like the VALORANT community will be pleased with the news, although there is one small caveat.

The game will be available in China… for now

The game was initially seen on the Huawei App Store, with the game named VALORANT: Energy Operation, which is the name for VALORANT Mobile in China. On the digital store, there is also a webpage linked to the Tencent Spark 2025 event, which showcased some of the agents’ gameplay earlier today.

Currently, pre-registrations for the public beta are only available for the Chinese region, meaning that only Chinese players can get the first taste of the game. A QQ or WeChat account will be required to play it, meaning that non-Chinese residents won’t be play to get access. Pre-registrated users will get an exclusive Player Card as a reward. The release date for the game, however, is yet to be confirmed.

Riot previously stated that Riot Games would develop the global version while Tencent would take care of the mobile game in China. At the moment, there are no reports on the game’s global launch.

The game studio that co-developed VALORANT Mobile is LightSpeed Studios, which is a subsidiary of Tencent Games and has previously worked on other mobile games such as PUBG Mobile. The main upside of having a non-Riot developer to work on the product also means that the game can be tailored more to mobile gamers.

VALORANT Mobile – adaptation or new features?

Similar to what Wild Rift was with League of Legends, VALORANT Mobile is looking to emulate the mechanics from the desktop version, featuring the same shooting mechanics, agents, and strategies. The game will have a redesigned user interface to accommodate smartphones and other mobile devices while maintaining gameplay similarities to make it intuitive.

Among the various trailers, the game also confirmed there will be two mobile original maps that are currently not featured in the PC version: Dust Cargo Yard and Ancient Village. Moreover, Bind and Lotus with have mobile-only layouts.

The news doesn’t stop here. VALORANT Mobile will also feature an Advancing Training Mode and the implementation of the Replay System, allowing players to re-watch matches played previously, allowing them to review their gameplay and potentially identify suspicious gameplay from other players.

The Advanced Training mode, on the other hand, will allow players to master the most challenging mechanics, setting up the perfect learning environment for newcomers and those who are looking to improve their own skills.

What does this mean for VALORANT Esports?

While there is no confirmation regarding cross-play, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see the mobile version of VALORANT having ties with the PC version due to how different the mechanics can be between the two devices. That being said, this is a great sign for mobile gamers, who will sooner or later have access to one of the most popular FPS games in the world, and expand Riot’s presence in one of the most lucrative gaming markets.

Known for its high investments in the mobile space, with games like Honor of Kings, China will be the testing ground for VALORANT Mobile to see its success. Moreover, the game has been rising in popularity over the past year, especially after the Chinese esports team EDward Gaming won the VCT last year and came third at the recent VCT Masters Bangkok.
