OG Esports to drive innovation between esports and Web3

While details about the acquisition will be released in the coming weeks, Chiliz Group’s acquisition will mark a new chapter for OG Esports. Xavier Oswald will become the new CEO of the esports team, with co-founders Johan “n0tail” Sundstein and Sébastien “Ceb” Debs leading a new strategic project, driving innovation at the intersection of esports and Web3, according to a release.

The deal will also see Socios.com become the exclusive wallet and engagement platform for $OG Fan Tokens, serving as the blockchain layer for tickets, merchandise, in-stadium perks, and digital content. The platform is widely used in traditional sports, including football clubs such as FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Manchester City, among others, to strengthen the connection between fans and brands.

The platform also integrates real-world assets and club revenues through mechanisms like buybacks to deliver deeper influence and tangible value to supporters. Introduced in 2020, OG has been using the $OG Fan Token to drive fan culture, becoming the first team to surpass the $100 million market capitalization.

With the Chiliz Group joining, the esports team will leverage the blockchain provider’s network and the global group’s financial strength, expanding into new countries and markets while bringing in more commercial opportunities.

Founded in 2015, OG is the first team to have won back-to-back titles at The International in Dota 2. Throughout the years, OG has ventured into other esports titles, including Counter-Strike, VALORANT, Honor of Kings, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

“This marks the start of a bold new era for OG,” said Xavier Oswald, incoming CEO of OG. “With Chiliz as our majority partner, we can scale our teams, grow our global community, and unlock a new dimension of engagement through the $OG Fan Token. We’ve always believed that fans should be at the centre of everything we do, and now we have the tools and the backing to make that vision a reality.
