There’s a new MOBA in town and it entered open beta on Steam today. Supervive is a brand new MOBA and hero shooter combination bringing together elements of games like League of Legends and Overwatch into a brand new gaming experience.

Supervive Enters Open Beta Today

I don’t exactly think League of Legends or Valve’s Dota 2 days are numbered but they’re going to have competition going into 2025 with the likes of Deadlock joining the esports ranks as well.

But back to Supervive, what exactly is it?

Supervive – MOBA by ex-RIOT and Blizzard devs

Theorycraft Games is a brand new and independent studio with only one title to their name – Supervive. The goal with this game seems to taking the existing genres of MOBA and hero shooter and improving them, making them social and “deep”.

Initial reports are good, after just a couple of hours live on Steam, it has received over 50 reviews with a “very positive” score. Though I don’t know how much of the game anyone could have actually seen in that time, so take it with a pinch of salt.

The main difference between Supervive and traditional MOBAs like League of Legends is that it adds a Battle Royale mechanic. Teams consisting of 4 players each will need to compete to be the last one standing in the main game mode but there are two more including duos (with two players per team) and a basic 4v4 mode.

All of this sounds really positive and I’m excited to see how a game like this can keep companies like RIOT and Valve, who have dominated MOBAs for years, on their toes.

Supervive timeline

If you’re like me, I imagine you’ll be wondering about when Supervive will officially release. So good news and bad news. The good news is that the game has officially entered open beta and is available to download from Steam for free right now. The bad news is that open betas are often for incomplete games that still need significant development before a full release.

With that being said, there’s a bit of a timeline in place that shows Supervive has been up and coming for a few months now. So perhaps we’ll be waiting months as opposed to years for it to drop.

  • July 2024 – Creators invited to playtest.
  • September 2024 – Closed beta with a much smaller pool of invited players.
  • November 2024 – Open beta officially begins.

Is Supervive the future of esports?

There have been a lot of questions recently about the future of esports. The ecosystem is experiencing significant changes across multiple games in 2025. Dota and Counter-Strike are both expanding their professional play calendars, League of Legends added a new international tournament and the new LTA regional leagues. And these are just a couple of examples.

Supervive isn’t the only new game to hit the market, but the real thing to consider here is the potential. This game is clearly designed for esports. It works pretty much flawlessly within the traditional structure of teams and gameplay. We have really had a new game hit the heights of esports since VALORANT dropped so this is extremely exciting.

If you’re a MOBA fan, keep your eye on Supervive.
