Mobile Legends: Bang Bang just released the former China-exclusive hero, Wu Zetian, for all regions to play.

Is Wu Zetian Meta in MLBB?

Now fully unlocked, Zetian will be unlocked to use for everyone, from ammeters to the best MLBB teams. Her role in the game is a burst and crowd control mage, which would be perfect in the mid lane. But is Wu Zetian good enough to change the pro meta for Mobile Legends Bang Bang?

Let’s take a look at her skill set, to see if they fit the role that teams are looking for. What exactly can Wu Zetian MLBB do?

Passive – Phoenix Crown

Wu Zetian’s passive gives her two tools for survivability. The first one is a magical shield that activates whenever enemies get too close. Pushing them back and stunning them briefly. The other one gives her spell vamp, each time her skills hit enemies by 1%, up to a maximum of 10 stacks.

First Skill – Phoenix Flame

Wu Zetian’s first skill fires waves of magic damage, traveling in a straight line. Each wave that hits an enemy, including minions, creates the next wave. Going up to a total of 3.

The 3rd and final wave is stronger and also gives a slight knockback to enemies. She can also move freely while casting the skill, allowing her to dodge skill shots or chase heroes in the process.

Second Skill – Phoenix Spirit

Her second skill creates a vortex of magical damage in a targeted area, slowing down enemies by 50%, while dealing damage per second. When enemies are within the vortex, their magic resistance is also reduced by 10%, making them more vulnerable to her attacks. She can also cast it again to move the phoenix vortex to a new area to reposition it when the opponents try to get out of it.

Ultimate – Phoenix Dance

Wu Zetian’s ultimate shows all of the enemy heroes on the map as well as calls down a burst of magic damage to them. The spell deals heavy bursts as well as stunning all of them for 0.8 seconds. Not only that, but she also grants a slight speed boost to all of her teammates on the map.

Will Wu Zetian be Meta?

With this kit, she could become a decent mid laner for teams to consider. With her constant damage output, self-sustain, and global-scale ultimate. Unfortunately, this might not be enough for teams to make her a top pick, as she falls behind quick heavy burst damage to enemy pick-offs or big team fights.

She’s also vulnerable. Having one of the slowest base movement speeds, without any dashes or form of mobility except her ultimate with a 90-second cooldown. That ultimate still feels more like a support skill than something a burst mage should have in their arsenal for MLBB.

She might become a pocket pick in the mid lane or even go for a roaming role, but she will be overshadowed by other heroes with better kit. Take Pharsa, Yve, and Novaria. They’ve all got better burst than her. Not to mention potential for crowd control and mobility in their skill kit, not just in their ultimates.

All in all, Wu Zetian is probably, at best, a mid-tier mid laner, given her skill kit. A buff to her current mobility and a heavier burst with her 2 regular skills would make her a top pick.

Not a terrible result, given all the competition. Since Zetian MLBB was previously exclusive, it’s a shame they’re not better. But Zetian could still get play. Once we reach events like the Mid Season Cup, we might start to see her pop up in competitive play.
