Riot Games has revealed the next addition to the League of Legends roster, support Yunara, in the new Season 2 Spirit Blossom Beyond cinematic, according to leaks.

New LoL Champion Yunara Reveal – Abilities & Release Date

Dataleaks have revealed references to a character named Yunara, a new support champion, buried in the upcoming content for LoL ’25 Season 2. With the release of the “Here, Tomorrow” Spirit Blossom Beyond video, we have what appears to be our first look at LoL’s new support, coming later during Season 2.

Riot Games reveal new champ, Yunara

The trailer begins with an unseen character, in a grove of lanterns in what appears to be Ionia’s Spirit Realm, letting small lotuses fall onto a river. These blossoms fall into the water, and appear in the real world, the Material Realm, and float away. Later in the cinematic, we get a glimpse at this character.

They are a thin, feminine, figure with short white hair and a long-transparent gossamer skirt. They are tending to a set of lanterns in the same dark grove in the Spirit Realm shown before.

This, by all accounts, is Riot teasing the next character to join the roster. So, what can we learn about Yunara from both the leaks and the video?

Who is Yunara?

Here are the confirmable details, or most likely leaks, that we have about Yunara at this time. Firstly, Yunara was leaked to be a support-oriented champion. Given her clearly non-martial design, and her apparent use of Dream Blossoms (The memories of the dead that blossom in the spirit realm into dreams.) would like up with the less offensively-focused role of a support.

Yunara begins the video inside of the Spirit Realm, in a small grove that is severed by a set of stairs that lead down to nothingness. Later on in the video, Xin finds a ruined set of stairs that leads to nothing. These stairs perfectly match the missing stairs leading to Yunara’s realm.

The Spirit Blossom festival is a canonical event in League of Legends in which the Ionians are able to speak and interact with beings of the Spirit Realm. It seems like Yunara may have been trapped in the Spirit Realm, in this grove, for a long time. She clearly has some amount of control over the Spirit Blossoms/Dream Blossoms as a result of her time spent away from the Material Realm.

All of these point towards Lunara’s identity in League of Legends itself being that of an enchanter, a shield, healing, and utility-focused champion who empowers their ADC and allies to contribute to a match.

What are Yunara’s abilities?

Yunara’s abilities have yet to be leaked or revealed, but we can make a few educated guesses. Firstly, flowers and blossoms feature incredibly heavily in Yunara’s design and the cinematic. Given the association between the only other Dream Blossom-focused character, Lillia, having a Sleep effect, I could easily see Yunara’s ultimate being another AoE sleep set up.

Otherwise, fans will have to wait for later on during League’s Season 2 of 2025 to find out her full kit.

What is Yunara’s release date?

Yunara’s release date has yet to be confirmed, but she’s been leaked to be planned to arrive much alter in the season. Popular theories include patches 25.14 or 25.15, in mid-late June, just before the release of MSI.

This would match with previous release cycles, as a release close enough to the Mid Season Invitational would mean Yunara would not be allowed in pro play.

Riot Games seems to often intentionally withhold new champions from international play in order to tune their balance, and such a release timing would allow them to do so for MSI 2025 as well.

What is Yunara’s lore?

So, as our breakdown article notes, the “Here, Tomorrow” Spirit Blossom is only partly canonical, or so it appears. A portion of the cinematic is telling the story of Xin Zhao’s return to Ionia, while the other portion is dedicated to promoting the non-Ionian characters who are getting skins in this season.

To explain the canon parts, we’ll quickly recap the lore of Spirit Blossom. Spirit Blossom is a festival in Ionia that takes place during a period in which Spirit Blossoms, blossoms containing the memories of the dead, fall from the Spirit Realm into the Material Realm, and Ionians are able to “speak” to their deceased ancestors and loved ones. It also celebrates mythical figures and folklore from across history, which is how Riot justifies completely unrelated

Xin Zhao Spirit Blossom Cinematic Ionia

It appears that Yunara is a regular human who was accidentally sealed in the Spirit Realm after passing into a grove in the Spirit Realm. She’s been there quite a long time, and when the veil between the Spirit Realm and Ionia grows thin during the Spirit Blossom festival, the blossoms drifting from her grove lead Xin Zhao, who has returned home to find peace after the death of Jarvan III, to her. At the very end of the “Here, Tomorrow” cinematic, it seems like the two notice one another in their opposite realms. It seems likely that Yunara will reemerge into the Material Realm, and be taken under the wing of a pensive and mournful Xin Zhao as his protege.

LoL Champion Shen in the Spirit Blossom Cinematic

Yunara’s time away from the Material Realm would make her a naive, innocent foil to a very depressed and jaded Xin Zhao. This sets them up for a classic, if overdone, “Lone Wolf and Cub” dynamic ala Yasuo and Taliyah. The other character who might take Yunara under their wing is Shen, who appeared in the cinematic, and seemed to sense the disturbance in the Spirit Realm that led Xin Zhao to Yunara.

As the Edge of Twilight, Shen’s duty is to preserve the balance between the Spirit Realm and the material world of Ionia. With his previous student, Akali, having left in an act of young rebellion, Yunara could be a new, less problematic, student for Shen.

That’s everything we know about Yunara right now, make sure to check back in as Season 2 progresses for more details if you’re already a “long time Yunara player.”
