It’s been one hell of a ride at this year’s League of Legends World Championship. After the stages in Beijing and Shanghai, the finalists T1 and KT will be battling for the title in Chengdu. As we head into the final, here are some interesting trivia and records from the tournament.

Worlds 2025 Trivia – Milestones and Facts ahead of the Grand Final

Bdd’s First Worlds Final

After nearly a decade of professional play and playing for several top teams, Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong will finally be playing his first Worlds final. After a year spent in leading KT and playing in his best form ever, he will now get his chance to claim a title only a selected few had. Similar to Deft who had to wait 10 years for his shot at the title, Bdd is now one series away from lifting the Summoner’s Cup.

Doran’s unexpected shot at the title

Speaking of first times, this is also the first time for T1’s top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon. In a surprising turn of events which saw him join T1 at the end of last year, after Zeus decided to sign with Korean rival Hanwha Life Esports, Doran faced some backlash in the first part of the season due to his poor gameplay.

Luckily, his form ramped up in summer and he has been quite consistent at Worlds, in a meta where his characteristics as a weakside player are benefitting T1. If Doran were to win the title, Chovy would be the only player from the DRX 2020 roster to have never won the Worlds title… Not the greatest milestone for someone who has been notoriously among the best in the past five years.

The new wave of talents is here

League of Legends esports is celebrating 15 years and we’re seeing newer waves of talents across all competitive regions. Players like G2’s jungler SkewMond, CFO’s HongQ, and TSW Hizto, have all picked up valuable experience at Worlds 2025.

While some have performed better than others, club’s willingness to foster new players and make them a key cornerstone of their long-term projects will likely define the next era of competitive League of Legends.

No Pentakills — Yet

Despite all the chaos from the Swiss stage and the Knockout stage, Worlds 2025 has yet to witness its first pentakill of the tournament. Considering the number of games and the increasing trend of skirmishes and teamfights as a key factor to decide the games’ outcome, getting no pentakills is a strange statistic to look at. Will we see a pentakill in the final? It will likely become one of the highlights of the entire tournament.

The Most Picked Champions of Worlds 2025

  • Xin Zhao — 27 picks
  • K’Sante — 25 picks
  • Alistar — 23 picks

Speaking of the tournament, the introduction of Fearless Draft has completely changed the way teams approach champion selection and teamfight composition. Instead of chasing the strongest priority picks, teams have pivoted to focusing on finding synergizing picks that can maximize the players’ individual abilities or team identities.

That being said, there are still some evergreen champions that have had a much higher pick rate due to the champion’s innate versatility or power. Xin Zhao and K’Sante were go-to picks for jungle and top lane due to their skirmishing and frontline potential. In a meta where you want to have great engage potential to kick off fights and finding teamfight opportunities, it’s not surprising to see a champion like Alistar also end up on high priority.

The Most Banned Champions of Worlds 2025

  • Yunara — 54 bans
  • Azir — 46 bans
  • Poppy — 43 bans

Considering champions can only be played once per series in Fearless, bans have gained more importance as they can be used to negate power picks or specific meta counters.

The newest champion Yunara has been the most banned pick of the tournament, with 54 bans recorded so far and will be the most banned champion. If you had her in your Crystall ball Pick’ems, congrats. The other two most banned champions are Azir, who is currently considered a must play by all mid laners, and Poppy, who had insane success during the Swiss stage as the ultimate counter to engage comps and is also a triple flex pick (top, jungle, and support). These three picks are likely going to be on the teams’ ban list in the final.
