After the most thrilling series at Worlds 2025 so far, we spoke to T1’s player of the series Gumayusi as he hard carried the team in the comeback against Anyone’s Legend.
Davide: First of all, congratulations on the win. That was super intense.
Gumayusi: I’m really happy that we got the win and I’m happy to keep the record that we never lose to the LPL in a Worlds best of five and I’m very happy to be able to make it to the semifinals too. Today’s match was really fun.
Gumayusi: Because we had quite a lot of time, we practiced with many different teams and we wanted to make sure that we kind of get rid of the mistakes or issues that we have displayed in the previous matches… And we also focus on prepping the draft.

Davide: Speaking of that, I wanted to ask you first about the Anivia and the Mundo pick. Does that mean that you kind of against with or against G2 in scrims? Because those two champions were initially played by them.
Gumayusi: Anivia is a pick that actually makes appearances in the LCK from time to time so it’s something that we hadn’t prepared. But Mundo, for sure, we got inspiration from G2 because they initially locked it in and then we didn’t really practice a lot on jungle Mundo, but it was more of a spur of the moment pick.
Davide: I want to talk about Kai’Sa, because it’s a champion that some people have said that you have previously struggled on. You definitely proved the people wrong in that Game 4.
Gumayusi: I was also aware of some of the comments about my Kai’Sa and that made me really want to work super hard to prepare this champion. And because of that preparation, I was able to just lock it in without any hesitation today. I’m very happy with the performance overall and playing Kai’Sa wasn’t too much pressure for me today. I was playing it with confidence very comfortably.
Davide: The next two questions are about Game 5. Silver Scrapes is always a special moment for esports fans.
Gumayusi: I’m pretty much used to listening to Silver Scrapes and also it’s always not an easy thing, you know, going into the game 5. When I’m walking down the road, you know, today I was able to hear so many fans shouting and chanting my name.
The chants coming from the fans, the energy on the stage, the view, everything was amazing. So I think I had such a great memory from today’s experience and it was very thrilling for me.

Davide: The other question is about the Ashe-Seraphine bot and pick. obviously haven’t seen as Seraphine.
Gumayusi: Seraphine is something that we have frequently played in the past. And then today when we were looking at the opponent’s comp, we were going through some of the options that we had for our 4th and 5th picks. And then looking at the enemy’s comp, we thought Ashe-Seraphine could do a great job and I think it worked really well.
Davide: You’re facing Top Esports next, another LPL team.
Gumayusi: Because T1 is undefeated by LPL in a world’s best of five, I think this kind of record would add so much pressure to them.
About JackeyLove, I’ve always thought he’s a great player and he’s just an amazing person as well, but too bad that I will not be nice to him this time.
Davide: We’ve seen that T1 has been struggling a little bit with their form during the Swiss stage in Beijing.
Gumayusi: I think really highly of our ceiling, so I can’t really say today was the peak performance. I think there were some points that we love to be desired, so we really have to work on that. If he hit the ceiling, actually it would have been a 3-0. So I think we still have some work to do and do our preparation in order to advance to the finals and win it all.

Davide: What’s that one of the things that you think you guys still have to work on?
Gumayusi: Getting caught in the mid lane or not being able to execute the early game plan or positioning in team fights.
Davide: Yyou’ve been competing at the highest level for I think over seven years now. You started in 2018.
Gumayusi: I’ve gone through so many things, you know, so I was able to get so many takeaways, I was able to learn so many mindsets, so many thoughts. Everything was really helpful for me as a person.
I was able to get so much more mature and grow a lot so I’m really grateful to be able to go through this professional career experience and I think I can continue to become a great professional player and a person.
Gumayusi: Thank you for cheering and we will [get the] victory in the semifinals, thank you.
