Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson has finally given some news about his possible acquisition of a slot in LTA North (formerly LCS). After first announcing his desire to join the League of Legends competitive ecosystem, the world’s biggest youtuber (367 million subscribers) has given more details on the matter in an interview with Mike Kent for Clickbaited. We learn that MrBeast intends to acquire a slot within the next 3 to 4 years, with the aim of winning Worlds.
More than two years ago, on the occasion of the Worlds 2022 finals held in San Francisco, MrBeast announced:
“I’m going to buy an LCS slot, 100%. It’s not a question of if I’m going to do it, but when I’m going to do it. It might take a year or two.”
It’s now more than two years later, and the YouTuber still hasn’t kept his promise… However, in the interview published last Friday, he did say that he would eventually do it, but that the deadline still seems to be pushed back because he’s too busy.
“I’ve got a lot going on at the moment, but I am going to buy an LCS (now LTA North) team.”
Nor has he changed his mind about his ambition. In 2022, he said he wanted to create a team capable of toppling the NA curse, and reaching a stage such as Worlds’ final. He repeated that the reason he was investing in this scene was to win Worlds:
“It would not be about making money, it would not make money at all especially if I want to win Worlds. It would be my poor man version of a rich person buying an NBA team: buying an LCS team and stacking and trying to win Worlds.”
In fact, the influencer has stated that his objective does not stem from a more global desire to create an esports organization. “I am not doing it for the love of esports, I am doing it for the love of League of Legends. I f*cking love LoL.” He even added that he dreamed of becoming a professional player when he was a teenager. Before concluding:
“We got to keep the esports scene poppin! I don’t want to see it decline in viewership. I don’t want to finally get a team, win Worlds and everyone is like no one cares, League is dead. Keep that sh*t going, one day I’ll step in.”
Desperate NA fans now know what they have to do before a prospective Messiah finally comes of age…
