It was supposed to be the easier matchup for Gen.G in the LCK upper bracket final, but it turned out to be once again a nightmare. In a surprising turn of events, KT Rolster has taken down the no.1 team in the LCK to lock in the first ticket to Worlds 2025, defying all expectations and proving that KT continues to be the “roller coaster” of the Korean league.
With Gen.G getting the choice to choose their upper bracket opponent, it was expected to see them go for the lower-seeded team. KT Rolster has been beaten over and over again throughout the regular season and despite Bdd’s best attempt to consistently carry the team over the line, the team never looked in peak form.
Among the main culprits were Cuzz, who is known for always being a somewhat volatile player, and deokdam, who was often considered as a bottom-tier ADC in the league. Well, these two ended up being the ones who stepped up the most, showing that KT can indeed fight the powerhouses when all stars are aligned.

The series kicked off with a statement by KT, proving that it wasn’t going to be an easy ride for Gen.G. With a strong skirmishing team composition based around the new ADC Yunara, KT took control of the early game objectives and kept pushing their advantage. Gen.G tried to stall the game, waiting for Orianna and Smolder to scale up, but a 28-minute Baron ended the game before the team could do anything.
If the first series was worrying enough, things seemed to go back to normal in the second game. With the bot lane of Lucian-Braum, Ruler took over the 2v2 matchup while Kiin was safely farming his items as Gwen in the top lane. Compared to the first game, Gen.G was always in control, stacking up an Infernal Soul until KT were able to momentarily turn the gold lead around with a Baron. That said, it wasn’t enough to match Gen.G’s DPS damage and with Jhin-Trundle falling off in the skirmishes, Gen.G evened the score.
Game 3 looked like Gen.G was back to normal and leading the script, dominating the entire map and only giving away 6 kills to the enemy team. With no towers captured, the Camille-Vi-Galio trio always had guaranteed backline access and with Ruler’s Sivir acting as the late-game DPS, Gen.G steamrolled KT to take match point in the series.

With the back against the wall, KT went for a poke-heavy draft with Ziggs and Zoe, one of Bdd’s pocket picks, in Game 4. Once again, it was KT who were able to gain early control of dragons, utilizing the superior range to zone off the enemies. Gen.G were only able to delay the Hextech soul by five minutes in this series and despite their slow and composed playstyle to keep the gold deficit as small as possible, the team lost the Elder Dragon contest, giving KL the win and forcing Silver Scrapes.
Fearless Draft Game 5 are usually pretty one-sided but this was probably one of the closest matches we’ve seen in recent times. Gen.G tried to play opposite to their composed playstyle by using a Twisted Fate-Lee Sin combo while KT answered with Wukong-Lissandra for the skirmishes, pairing them with Ezreal to ensure long-range poke.

Even though Gen.G got the early lead, the 20-minute dragon fight saw KT even the gold lead in one single moment. It looked like the game was going into KT’s favor but Gen.G showed their resilience by bringing it back with a Baron fight and swung the game back in their favor. Still, it wasn’t enough to close out the game as KT always had the upper hand in the teamfights. With both teams once again fighting it at Elder, it was KT who came out on top after Canyon was caught out early in the fight.
For KT, this will be one of the most unforgettable moments in the 2025 campaign, with Bdd shedding tears right after the game. For Gen.G, it’s back to the drawing board: they will now have to wait for their opponent in the lower bracket.
