CFO and PSG Talon Clinch Worlds 2025 Qualification after Upper Bracket Lock-In

CFO and PSG Talon are back on the big stage

The two LCP teams are the only teams, alongside Gen.G, to have officially locked qualification for the Swiss stage of Worlds 2025. CFO were able to take down Team Secret Whales with a 2-1 victory, while PSG swept other playoff favorite GAM Esports with a convincing 2-0 record. The two teams will now play each other on September 13 for a spot in the LCP Grand Final, which will take place on September 21.

CFO achieves an important record

CFO has been consistently the strongest team in the LCP, having found a strong lineup of veteran players and young talents such as rookie mid Tsai “HongQ” Ming-Hong and top laner Shen “Driver” Tsung-Hua. As one of the few teams finding success with a six-man roster, CFO is the first and currently only team to qualify to have qualified to all international tournaments in a competitive season since the introduction of First Stand (FST) this year. The team also defied many expectations at these tournaments, having finished third at FST and forced T1 to a five-game series at the Mid-Season Invitational.

Can PSG Talon pull off one of the greatest comebacks in a split?

While most were expecting CFO to make it through a deep run heading into Worlds, PSG Talon was the real shock contender of the split. After losing all games in the group phase and the tiebreaker to MGN Vikings, TALON fought their way back into the playoffs through dominant wins against Chiefs Esports Club and DetonatioN FocusMe and then took two clean wins against MGN Vikings again and GAM Esports.

A known presence at internationals, Talon comes from a rough season, unable to fight for the top spots. It wasn’t until the mid lane legend Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang announced his return that the team had its renaissance. Paired with the renewed partnership with football club Paris Saint-Germain to bring back the PSG Talon nameplate, the team is now on its way to fight in front of thousands and thousands of fans in China next month.

LCP Season Finals – Two teams locked in, one to go

With the first round of matchups over, the only eliminated team in the LCP Finals is DetonatioN FocusMe. The Japanese team was often the sixth force of the league and wasn’t able to do much better this split, losing to MGN Vikings in the elimination series.

The latter will now face Team Secret Whales in the lower bracket this coming Friday, with the winner facing the other Vietnamese team GAM, in the third round on September 14. On paper, GAM is the expected favorite, but Team Secret Whales has also shown stronger performance, especially considering they pushed CFO to three games in the upper bracket. The last LCP team to qualify for Worlds, joining CFO and PSG, should be among these two squads.
