Riot Games has shared the details about the Americas Cup, the cross-regional competition that will bring LCS and CBLOL together ahead of First Stand.
While teams across the globe are currently competing in playoffs for a spot at First Stand, North and South America will come together in a showdown that will see the second and third-place teams from both regions compete at the Riot Games Arena in São Paulo.
Starting on March 4 and ending on March 8, the four teams will be competing in front of a live audience, building experience, and also getting the chance to train and scrim against top teams that will be flying over to prepare for the global event.
According to the format, the four teams will be placed in a double-elimination bracket, featuring all Bo5 series except the first upper bracket opening matches, which will be Bo3. Matches will start at 18:00 BRT (22:00 CET) from March 4 to March 6, while the last two days of action will kick off at 16:00 BRT (20:00 CET). Tickets will go on sale at 13:00 BRT (9:00 CET) on February 19.
The goal of the competition is to give more teams in these two regions an opportunity to train and gain experience by competing against the top teams in the world. The award behind the Americas Cup also aligns with this goal: the champion will receive a fully funded, two-week bootcamp in Korea during MSI, which will take place later this summer.
Aside from the Americas Cup champions, Riot will also provide funding to three more teams:
If a team qualifies for the bootcamp through multiple paths, the additional slot will be awarded back to their league, meaning that there will be either four LCS teams or three CBLOL teams going bootcamping.
