It was the dream ending to Halo Infinite for Shopify Rebellion, who rounded out a dominant year with victory at the Halo World Championship 2025 over OpTic Gaming. A fairytale finish for CyKul, Royal2, LastShot, and Frosty, with a more bitter taste for the likes of Formal, Bound, and Lqgend.

For the entirety of 2025, the top two of the Halo hierarchy has been dominated by OpTic Gaming and Shopify Rebellion. The superteam put together by the Green Wall, up against the well-rounded Shopify Rebellion roster. Where OpTic won the Arlington Major, Shopify Rebellion won in Salt Lake City and Charlotte. It was inevitable, then, that these two teams would meet in the Grand Final, especially after FaZe Clan suffered a shock exit from the Halo World Championship 2025 yesterday.
Coming into this Grand Final, Shopify Rebellion arrived from the Winner’s Bracket, having already beaten OpTic Gaming 4:1 to get there. It was comprehensive, and OpTic were always going to need a miracle to reset the bracket and pull off a full reverse sweep to take home the prize. From the beginning, it felt like you knew the end.
Yet, despite this, I was still surprised by the Grand Final itself – a 4:1 repeat of their earlier matchup. The score itself isn’t surprising given the quality of Shopify Rebellion, but given the stakes and the occasion, the last Halo World Championship for Infinite, I just expected to see a little more from OpTic. But take nothing away from Shopify Rebellion. This was Halo being played to its highest level, every fine detail of their game near-perfect. On the day, the Green Wall didn’t stand a chance.

But instead, it was another dominant win for the Shopify Rebellion. A fourth Halo World Championship victory for Royal2 and Frosty, putting the duo firmly among Halo royalty. For youngsters LastShot and CyKul, it’s a first HWC on the board, right as Halo Infinite comes to an end. Their names etched in the game’s history, regardless.

Prior to the Halo World Championship, much was made of FormaL’s future in the FPS space. It seems there will be no more Halo. No return to Call of Duty. This was to be his swan song, win or lose. In the end, it was a bittersweet conclusion to a legendary career in controller-based FPS titles. Hey, who knows? He might still play on, but right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
OpTic will have wanted this win to send off the icon with a second Halo World Championship title. After finishing as runner-up at the previous two iterations in 2024 and 2023 respectively, it would have been fitting. Instead, it’s a consecutive trio of disappointments, a collection of “what ifs” for OpTic Gaming and FormaL.
What does OpTic’s future in Halo hold? It’s hard to see, given the much-reduced circuit for 2026. But if this is the end for the Green Wall in Halo (Infinite, at least), then it’s been a crazy ride.
