This is the first major of the year on the Fortnite Champions Series circuit and the first with the new changes introduced in the qualifier system. Teams will battle it out online for a chance to qualify for the Global Championships and of course a slice of the hefty prize pool.

The FNCS has a new expanded format for 2025 Major 1. Things began Divisional Cups, which saw weekly tournaments as players competed to make the Group Stage.
In the Group Stage itself, things got a bit more serious. In short sessions, teams had to win a Victory Royale if they wanted to make it through to the Finals. A difficult start for some players, as Fortnite esports has always rewarded consistently as much as wins. Now the Group Stage has finished, there’s one more shot at qualification through the Last Chance Qualifier. With the Major Finals then closing things up. That’s played over just two days, with a single lobby.
Players fight in a limited number of matches. Gaining points with each match, the winners have to be consistent to rise up the leaderboard.

The format for the FNCS Major 1 2025 isn’t too different for each region. It’s largely just smaller for some of them. With most regions only running two groups, while the biggest regions run three. These are the formats for each day of competition:
Prize Pool for Major 1 is big, but it’s a bit different depending on where you play. The two biggest regions, EU and North America Central, get the biggest share of the prize pool. With smaller regions like Middle East and Oceania getting less. These regions are less competitive though. This is how it breaks down:

9 trios can earn a spot to the FNCS GC from Major 1. Two from the biggest regions, and 1 from the others.
For the Grand Finals of Major 1, we’ll see the best 99 players or 33 teams in each region, so 231 across all seven regions. However, if we’re including the earlier rounds that number gets a lot higher. There’s no cap on trying to get into the FNCS, but out of the thousands of teams only those 33 per region made it to the final.
The FNCS is played on standard Fortnite, but it uses a special tournament build of the game. There are quite a few differences between this mode and the normal one. There are no cars, for a start. In fact, most mobility items are ruled out. Often collab items are missing too, but for the FNCS Major 1 2025 the game doesn’t have any of these at the moment so they’re not locked out.
EpikWhale has six total FNCS wins! Although, at the moment it’s Peterbot and Pollo who look like the strongest players after winning the last Global Championship. Chapter 6 does look quite different for competitive Fortnite, with new weapons and a fresh map. However, most of the Duos to watch at Major 1 are still those who dominated last year.
The first Major for FNCS this year began almost with the launch of the season. The new format for the game meant that Divisional Cups got underway in December briefly, then returned in January. This was all to sort players into tiers and finalize the Groups for the tournament. The Major itself is long, but it’s the Finals that most people watch. That will only take a week to get underway.
