One Fortnite back bling is going to get players an extra item when the new season launches. Something from back in the Chapter 1 Battle Pass is key to getting one of the new Fortnite pets. Although, it does mean players will be locked out unless they still have the Bonesy Fortnite back bling hanging around!

At the weekend, the next season begins. This is a Simpsons mini season. We’ve already seen a ton of different skins and features leaked. However, the long-rumoured Fortnite Pets feature has just been announced to be coming with the mini season too. We’ve already had confirmation of a handful of new pets which are coming to the game. This includes pets which match the existing popular Fortnite skins. One of these is coming for those who hold the Bonesy Fortnite back bling already! How will it work and why is such an old back bling getting another feature?
The next big feature to come to Fortnite will be companions. Essentially little pets which follow you around on the map. From the looks of it, it’ll be a full companion who can do Fortnite emotes and move around quite a bit. But the new Fortnite pets look quite close to some of the older versions of pets.
These were essentially back blings of an animal. The most notable was the Bonesy Fortnite back bling! It was a dog in a little bag, which you wore on your back. Now that Epic is doing more with new pets, the older version hasn’t been forgotten. Which is why holders of the Bonesy Fortnite back bling will receive this free pet.

If you’re a newer Fortnite player, you might not remember Bonesy, or the original pets. They’ve become quite a rare site. Even skins from those Fortnite Battle Passes tend to be rarer to spot now. But the backbling represented a push into a new area with pets, which didn’t eactly go well.
The original was unlockable in the Season 6 Battle Pass, from chapter 1. You got it on tier 12, so a pretty early unlock. Everyone with the Battle Pass that season likely has this. The same model for Bonesy was used for another pet, one from the item Shop.

While Fortnite skins get recolors, the recolor for this pet wasn’t quite as big. Gunner was another pet with some similarities to the Bonesy Fortnite back bling. A lot of similarities. It was basically the same thing, with the smallest change. It got removed from accounts, refunded, and removed from the item shop. It was also pretty much the end of pets. Apparently Epic had very few ideas about what to do with the backblings, or just gave up after messing this up.
It’s nice to see Bonesy get a bit more attention so much further down the line. That it’s a pet which was the source of so much controversy originally makes it a bit more understandable. It’s taken a long time for Epic to return to the idea of Fortnite pets, but this new version does seem a lotter fuller than what came before.
