The Team Liquid Dota 2 rollercoaster is still running this season and with their victory over Team Falcons in the PGL Wallachia Season 3 upper bracket final, the ride is at the peak once more. The ESL One Bangkok runners-up are in another major LAN grand final, thanks to a spirited performance that saw them preventing a deciding game 3 despite getting off to a rough start in game 2.

PGL Wallachia Season 3: Are Liquid Back On Top?

Liquid take 2-0 victory over Falcons

Game 1 was when they got the ball rolling, after successfully pulling off a Sven-Dark Seer-Invoker draft that allowed them to break the mid game wide open against Falcons. Michael “miCKe” Vu ran roughshod over the Falcons lineup as Sven, scoring 13 kills and dying only once through 37 and a half minutes of play.

The second game was much more of a struggle for Liquid. The laning phase went very poorly for them as Falcons completely dominated the early goings. With an 8,000 net worth lead at around the 23 minute mark, even the analysts onsite didn’t think Liquid stood much of a chance from there — and that they would instead have to try again in game 3.

But as Jonáš “SabeRLight-” Volek said in a tweet about three weeks ago, all he had to do was stop losing his lanes and things would finally fall into place for him and his team.

Indeed, that’s exactly what happened in game 2, as SabeRLight- picked up his Night Stalker in the drafting phase, and proved to everyone just why this hero should not be allowed to fall into his hands. Although he posted a terrible-looking kill/death score of 4-13, he was definitely the MVP of this game, creating tons of space for his team and just being a huge nuisance in teamfights.

Can Liquid win PGL Wallachia Season 3?

This result guarantees them at least $175,000 in prize money, but I’m sure that’s the least of Liquid’s concerns right now. These guys are the defending International champions after all, and they are just as competitive as anyone else in the professional Dota 2 scene. They’re going to shoot for a LAN title this season, and this is another chance for them to get back to the top.

Of course, they still have to win another series in order to do so. The last time they played a best-of-five, they fell to PARIVISION at ESL One Bangkok. They look much, much more comfortable right now than they did at DreamLeague Season 25 though have finally got used to the new patch 7.38b, so their chances of winning at Wallachia are a lot higher.

Whether or not they can keep their cool and get themselves over the finish line is still up in the air. Beating a team like Falcons is sure to boost their confidence, though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they carry this momentum all the way to the end. They should at least do it for SabeRLight-. He’s been through enough heartbreak and disappointment, and certainly deserves a premier title.
