Well, I don’t think any of us expected him to say that! We might not have the long awaited post-TI gameplay update in Dota but in the most recent update, Valve announced that the latest Dota 2 update is a brand new collaboration with CapCom’s Monster Hunter.
This is the first in-game event since Crownfall ended and the crossover event brings “new sets, new pets, a new in-game hunt and crafting system, and of course monsters”. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Dota 2 x Monster Hunter event.
The very first thing you’ll want to do when you load up Dota is claim the free Palico courier by simply clicking to join the hunt at the bottom of the screen, selecting the courier and using your free crafting materials. This will then unlock your ability to receive more crafting materials and start working on the free sets, which include multiple variations for each.
Heroes with sets in the Dota 2 x Monster Hunter crossover are:
You’ll also be able to unlock Poogie, the brand new effigy pet and his skin variations with enough crafting materials.

There’s good news and bad news on this front. The good news is that you can earn crafting materials by simply playing Dota. The bad news is that there are different rarities of the materials needed to craft all of the sets so there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to get the set you particularly like. Either that or you’ll end up playing a whole lot of Dota for them.
If you want to craft a specific set in the Dota 2 x Monster Hunter crossover, you’ll need to pay attention to which heroes will drop which kinds of materials upon completion of the game. Only common and super rare materials will be dropped by almost any hero in the game.
For the uncommon and rare materials, you’ll need to enter the event page and pick out the set you most want to craft and select it to see which materials are needed and which heroes you’ll need to play in order to receive it. Uncommon materials have 14 hero options to choose from and rare materials have 10 so you shouldn’t struggle too much to find a hero that will work for you.

For those particularly keen Dota beans among us, there’s also a chance to upgrade your Dota 2 x Monster Hunter experience. For the low low price of £11.09 GBP (around $15 USD), you can purchase the Expedition Pack, which grants the following rewards:
This does rather defeat the purpose of playing so much of the game but you know, if you don’t have the time, what’s a little money to make it easier?
The Expedition Pack will also unlock upgraded crafting recipes for the hero skin variations, costumes for Palico and outfits for Poogie.
The Dota 2 x Monster Hunter crossover will last until Feb 6th 2026, so there’s plenty of time to get out there and hunt!
