Crownfall has been going on for so long now that I hardly remember the game without it. Valve really delivered with this 4 part, multi-month event and have now officially archived it. We’ve known this would happen on February 6th since January 25th so that’s not surprising but I’ve got to say that the final days have been somewhat overshadowed by the continued absence of a patch.
First things first, Valve did confirm in their blog post that Crownfall hasn’t been wiped off the face of the Earth and we’ll actually still be able to play the a collection of the mini games from every act of the event to kill time during queue times or just for a little extra fun. I actually really like this as a feature, I can’t be the only one who misses queue time trivia that we always had during the Battle Passes of old, right?
The good news is that through the archive, everyone will retain their progress and still be able to redeem any last rewards. So I guess if you were living in denial about Crownfall finally ending, you can still claim your rewards. Which is better than a poke in the eye.
We’ve been sitting on patch 7.37e since November 20th 2024. That might not seem like a long time but a simple small letter patch when I for one was expecting the significant post-TI patch was disappointing. Casual players and pros like Team Liquid’s Saberlight are pretty sick of it by now.
Currently, we’re slap bang in the middle of BLAST Slam 2 but that doesn’t mean we won’t get a patch later tonight. Famously, Valve dropped a huge patch during ESL One Kuala Lumpur with very little notice and I have yet to hear a player say they’d have a problem with another mid-tournament patch.
Of course, we’re expecting significant hero and item changes but it’s worth remembering that we haven’t had a single map update since the New Frontiers patch 7.33 in April 2023. Copium? Maybe. Hopium? Definitely. Let’s see what Valve has in store for us.
