Two teams are going to head back to their hotel rooms with utter satisfaction – Furia and The MongolZ. While The MongolZ breezed through the Bo1s with wins over MOUZ and G2, while Furia went 1-1.

But taking down Spirit and pushing Vitality to overtime is not an easy feat for a team of any capacity, and they must be proud of the energy they brought in. Speaking of energy, 3DMAX and G2 looking out of sorts in their opening matches, but recovered in their second Bo1s.

Further takeaways from the first day of Elimination Stage include an upset by MIBR against the best team in the world, NAVI, TeSeS and NertZ looking incredibly sharp on HEROIC, and while rain has arrived in Shanghai in Major form, broky is far from operating at full capacity.

It’s all happening here in Shanghai! We have our first teams qualified to the Shanghai Major playoffs and The MongolZ have created by being the first Asian team to reach top 8 at a Major.

Overall, they are the third team from the APAC region to achieve the feat, after Renegades did it at IEM Katowice IEM Katowice 2019 and StarLadder Berlin Major 2019. That’s not where today’s story ends.

The day kicked off with Spirit pulling the rug from under NAVI by handing them a crushing defeat. Later in the day, FaZe, Liquid, and G2 inched closed to progressing to the next stage, while Vitality cruised past MIBR to become the first team to secure a playoffs slot. And just like that, Wildcard and BIG become the first two teams to bomb out of the competition.

Shanghai Major Day 3

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a better day. We start with a G2-FaZe clash early into the morning, or night depending on where you put up. One of MOUZ or 3DMAX will be packing their bags, while paiN and FURIA face off with elimination on the line. GamerLegion will aim to replicate their Opening Stage comeback, hoping for an unprecedented win against NAVI. Later, Spirit will get into a tug of war with HEROIC for a playoffs spot.

The playoffs are around the corner, I hope you don’t miss these matches!
