PGL’s return with PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 didn’t exactly start on the right foot, with several top teams turning down their invites. But as the saying goes, one team’s loss is another’s gain, as it gave the other teams a chance to spread their wings in the group stage. It was utter domination from FaZe and MongolZ, while other teams like Falcons and Astralis showed promise. Eternal Fire and paiN continued to impress, while Viruts.Pro and Complexity disappointed.

Now, with the final eight teams standing, we’re in for a showdown where it’s anything but smooth sailing. Here are the teams that will be taking the stage as we head into the Quarter-Finals.

FaZe

The top dogs and front-runners to qualify for the playoffs without breaking a sweat. They might joke about it, but the truth is, they’ve been running the show. With victories over SAW, MOUZ, and Eternal Fire, and with frozen and EliGE leading the charge, FaZe has been firing on all cylinders. At this point, they’re the safest bet to take it all when the dust settles.

The MongolZ

The highest-ranked team at PGL Cluj-Napoca has bulldozed its way into the playoffs, without so much as a scratch. Sure, their road to the final eight wasn’t exactly a minefield, taking down Wildcard, Complexity, and paiN, but you can only beat what’s put in front of you. Moreover, Senzu seems to have recovered from his injury, and his firing on all cylinders.

Eternal Fire

Eternal Fire has hit the ground running in 2025. By securing a playoff spot at Cluj-Napoca, they’ve made it three-for-three in reaching the playoffs at every event they’ve attended this year so far. Their journey did have a speed bump in the form of FaZe, who they might cross paths with again. But last time around these two met in a playoffs match, it was the Turks who had the last laugh.

Falcons

At long last, some good news for Falcons, they’ve punched their ticket to the playoffs, and it hasn’t been a walk in the park. They had to duke it out with MOUZ, Astralis, and paiN, but more often than not, they came out on top. Now that they are in the playoffs setting, if NiKo one day wakes up wanting blood, it won’t matter who is standing in front.

paiN

Another mono-national squad that seems to have hit its stride right at the start of 2025. paiN has looked really sharp, making short work of Virtus.pro before taking a detour with a loss to The MongolZ. But they bounced back in style, taking down Falcons and Astralis and now find themselves in the playoffs with nqz looking in prime form.

Astralis

It’s been a rough road for the Danes, but somehow, some way, they’ve clawed their way into the playoffs. But the good news going for them is that It hasn’t been a one-man show with device carrying the load. Instead, jabbi has been doing the heavy lifting, with the rest of the squad chipping in when it counts. The road ahead won’t be any smoother, but if there’s ever a tournament to turn things around, this is it.

SAW

Written off as dead in the water after a 0-2 start, SAW has flipped the script and pulled off a 3-2 turnaround, a classic CS storyline. After getting defeated by FaZe and Astralis, they dusted themselves off and went on a warpath, taking down FlyQuest, Complexity, and 3DMAX to punch their playoff ticket. A team with nothing to lose is often the most dangerous, and SAW might just have a few tricks up their sleeve.

MOUZ

It’s been a rocky road for Brollan’s squad, but they’ve held their horses and clinched the final playoff spot by the skin of their teeth. The journey was anything but smooth sailing, after winning their opening two games against BIG and 3DMAX, back-to-back losses to FaZe and Falcons had them staring elimination dead in the eye. But when the chips were down, they pulled through with a clutch win over Virtus.pro. Now, we’re about to see just how much gas they have left in the tank.
