We have just witnessed heartbreak on the first day of the Shanghai Major Playoffs, featuring a stifling ending to a MongolZ Cinderella run. However, there is room for more, as two more top-tier teams will be sent packing by the end of Day 2. Here is what you can expect on the second set of Quarter Final matchups.

G2 and Vitality favored in CS2 Shanghai Major Playoffs Day 2

G2 Esports vs. Heroic

A clash commences between two organizations with the best social media managers. However, these two teams aren’t only good for farming impressions, as both have shown serious potential throughout the Major.

Apart from an early Best of 1 loss to the late MongolZ, G2 has looked incredibly solid throughout their Elimination Stage run, winning 4 maps in a row without conceding 8 rounds on each to get to the Playoffs. Though the star duo of NiKo and m0NESY lead the charge, huNter- is also stepping in to win a Major before his cousin’s eventual sendoff.

The Heroic squad has earned my utter respect after their Elimination Stage tread, as they had to go through some of the toughest teams in the tournament to get here – and so they did. Silencing NAVI in the 2 – 2 match should be a testament to Heroic’s current capabilities, and NertZ is playing some insane Counter-Strike at the moment.

Though my heart beats for Heroic, it is pretty hard to believe that G2 would lose in the Quarter Finals. This will probably be the final match for the Danish organization unless degster is having a good day and can somehow match his counterpart’s prowess on the sniper.

Team Vitality vs. FaZe Clan

For the real match of the day, we’ll have a clash between two of the biggest names in Counter-Strike, but it might not seem as close as the tales suggest.

Team Vitality is looking like the clear favorite of the tournament. Though they had a pretty easy run through the Elimination Stage, all individuals on the team are awake, and let’s not get started about ZywOo who is having a career-high year. Even if we write off the main man in the equation, mezii is stepping up immensely for the team, despite being known for being the main underperformer.

Donning the opposite color, FaZe Clan isn’t looking too sharp recently, only barely squeezing past FURIA to secure a Playoffs berth. However, we all know that the karrigan-led squad thrives the deeper they go in a tournament. Still, taking on such a tall task like Vitality requires the key players on the team, ropz and broky, to step up. The latter’s impact hasn’t been felt too often throughout Shanghai.

I have Vitality to win the entire event on my Shanghai Major Pick ‘Ems, so my choice here is clear. However, we never know what FaZe Clan is capable of, as they could easily be the best team in the world on a good day.

Either way, we’ll bid farewell to two teams by the end of Day 2, and the stage will be set for both Semi Finals that will commence tomorrow.
