Cache is on the brink of making its long-awaited return to CS2, as confirmed by FMPONE’s latest post. A leaked video showing around the map first surfaced on Telegram a few hours ago, and now, the official word is out, it’s happening.

CS2 Cache is Finally Complete

One of the most historic and cherished map, Cache first debuted in Counter-Strike Source back in 2004, made by FMPONE, Volcano, and penE. It then found its way into CS:GO in 2014 as part of Operation Breakout and quickly cemented itself as one of the fan-favourites.

Remember NiKo’s Deagle on fire, kennyS’ squeaky wallbang, rain’s ace, coldzera’s jumpscare headshot onto NiKo’s prying AWP, and of course, the jumping double no-scope from s1mple that defied belief? Cache was the stage for some of Counter-Strike’s most iconic moments. Then, in March 2019, it was removed for a long-overdue remake. A reworked version arrived in October, but performance issues kept it from regaining its former glory. And when CS2 launched, Cache was nowhere to be found in the starting pool.

Cache’s return to CS

The first glimpse of Cache in CS2 came in February 2024, confirming it was in development. Teasers followed in September and October, but nearly a year after its first reveal, the map has finally been fully completed.

Who will benefit the most from Cache’s return you ask? Some of the highest rated players on the map are NiKo, Twistzz, XANTARES, Hen1, and coldzera. If you filter down to big events and look at teams, names like FaZe, Envy, old german MOUZ, SK, and Astralis.

But when will it return to the game? And if it returns to active duty, which map would it replace? That’s the million-dollar question. FMPONE has confirmed that Cache is now in Valve’s hands, awaiting approval before it can go live. Whether it’s a matter of weeks or months, one thing is certain, the comeback is near.
