Will Apeks ever beat the Flor and friends allegations? The team immediately got into the limelight ascending into EMEA and picking up the game’s first Game Changers player. But has she outgrown them already?

Deer in the headlights under the limelight
It shouldn’t come as much surprise that Apeks aren’t one of the trailblazer teams lighting their region on fire. Not every ascension team can be G2 after all. Apeks were expected to be on the lower end of their region but the pick up of Florescent was a fun one that immediately took a team that people might not have been paying much attention to, to suddenly being a team that would garner a huge number of fans overnight.
The team, at the time of writing, after 2 weeks of VCT EMEA Stage 1, have yet to pick up a series win. However, map wins have been slowly getting accrued with each match. Florescent has ben a huge driving force for this team. While there have been some distinct highlights from other members of the team, like Avova waking up during some of the matches to drag them across some important rounds, the majority of the fragging duties are on the back their Game Changers graduate.

Big Fish in a Small Pond
In defence of the rest of Apeks, the team’s style is definitely “Flor go kill”, as many top heavy teams also sometimes employ. And the lives of the players in the server are sometimes an expendable to be traded so Flor can secure 2-for-1s or better. But there’s only so many weeks of growing pains that can be excused before you keep asking the question of whether she’s too good for the current team.
Kick Off, due to visa issues, had them playing with the coach as a sub, and Batu has been a huge question mark for this team. When they put him on a duelist, and we get to see double duelist from Apeks, they look dangerous. When he’s on controller, it looks like only 2 members of Apeks have their keyboards plugged in at any given moment.
With roster shuffles happening mid season, I’d be super surprised if the Apeks roster going into Stage 2 still has her on the lineup. Another home in EMEA’s mid rungs or back in Americas for an NA roster could be the next step for her. While I’d love to see her on a top roster, I think the combination of Apek’s expected low placements and the lack of “need for a superstar duelist” might disqualify her from jumping onto an on paper championship contender.
But some mid table teams could definitely look to boost their Classic Bundle sales and general placements domestically with a Florescent pickup. My money is on Fnatic at the moment. With her already in EMEA and getting to actively scrim and play against them, they’ll be more clued in on how she can slot into the roster. Derke’s departure left some big shoes to fill over in the ex EMEA royalty’s roster, and Kayaak hasn’t quite stepped up to the plate just yet.
Wherever she ends up, she’ll be a joy to watch, and in the words of Governor, the newest addition to Flor and Friends from Korea – “FLORESCENT IS 15 AND 9 CAN WE GET HER SOME F-ING HELP” 😭
