They may have come in as the second seed from the Pacific Region but T1 finally lived up to the super team moniker and reached Grand Finals of VCT Masters Bangkok. I hinted we might get the full role reversal in my previous piece, and we are now in a golden narrative scenario.

After a fairly convincing series vs EDG on four maps, I am confident we are in for a banger final against Americas superteam in G2 Esports.

From second seed to second place or better

Domestically, they couldn’t beat DRX to get that illusive first seed. Narrow losses put DRX over them in Winner’s and Grand Finals.

But here in Thailand it’s been a different story for T1. Round 1 of Swiss wasn’t the start they wanted, losing out 2-0 EMEA’s super team, Vitality. It wasn’t a bad look though for the team, as every single 2 seed ended up facing elimination in the second round of Swiss.

T1 got a lay up in the form of Trace Esports to fully adjust to the masters stage, taking them down in confident 2-0 fashion.

Next, in a string of what could be considered a string of upsets, coaches would show their worth as the runback showed massive changes to the gameplan.

T1 started things off with a clean 2-0 over DRX despite losing 2 previous series to them, and followed up by sending Vitality home 2-1. It may have gone to 3 maps but T1 choked a 6 round lead in the opening map allowing Vitality to snatch it back. But from there, they shored up the holes and cleaned them up with massive early leads for the remaining games.

The only #2 seed to make it this far, they would knock out our Champions finalists EDG 3-1, to face G2 in the finals. If they can finish it out there then T1 will have beaten every #1 seed to win the event.

Can’t wait for tomorrow.
