Wolves’ Cinderella run and Paper Rex’s great form have seen them both reach the upper bracket final at Masters Toronto, meaning one of them is now guaranteed a grand final place. With each passing day, one bizarre Reddit theory is getting closer to coming true.
While their run has seen them beat increasingly stronger opponents, their matchup against Gen.G seemed a step too far. The Korean organisation had been the best-performing side in Toronto and had looked the most likely team to win the whole thing.
Gen.G beginning map one 9-2 up was no surprise. Wolves’ story, at least in the upper bracket, looked to have run its course. Gen.G were already destined for the finals.
Then Wolves’ plot armour kicked in, the second half saw the start of a fightback. Though Gen.G still managed to pick up the odd rounds to make it 11-6, seven consecutive round wins, each of which bred confidence for Wolves, eventually allowed the Chinese side to claim the map, against all odds.

Map two was a similar story. This time on Gen.G’s map pick, Sunset, a 9-5 advantage for the Pacific side meant nothing when Wolves won a ridiculous eight rounds back-to-back to complete an incredible 2-0 series victory and book their place in the upper bracket final.
Wolves, led by now-superstar IGL Pong “SiuFatBB” Ka-hei, showed exactly why they’re the new fan favourites in Toronto, while Gen.G failed to show the same mental fortitude for which they were praised in their prior win against Fnatic
In the other upper bracket clash, Paper Rex began the opening map in emphatic fashion, smashing Sentinels in a 13-3 domination.
Map two, on SEN’s pick, Sunset, was a much different story. A back-and-forth saw the Americas second seed take a slim 7-5 into halftime, then edging out some of the next few rounds to reach a 10-7 lead.

But then a switch flicked for Paper Rex. Led by an inspired 285 ACS performance by Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie, the Pacific third seed won six of the next seven rounds, completing a turnaround to claim a 13-11 map win and 2-0 series victory.
The win booked their upper bracket spot against the victorious Wolves. Both qualified for Toronto as third seeds, and both were considered outsiders for the title. Now one is guaranteed to reach the grand final.
Earlier in the tournament, a post by user smol_em0 did the rounds on r/ValorantCompetitive, a subreddit dedicated to VALORANT esports discussion. In it, the user detailed an unusual pattern in Team Heretics’ global appearances.
As it turns out, in their three global events prior to Masters Toronto, all in 2024, Los Niños only ever lost to teams that went on to finish first and third at the respective tournaments.

At Masters Madrid, they lost to third-place Paper Rex and eventual winners Sentinels. At Masters Shanghai, they lost to third-place G2 and lost the grand final to Gen.G. At VALORANT Champions, they lost to Leviatán and, again, lost the grand final, this time to EDward Gaming.
In Toronto, the side crashed out immediately with two defeats. Those defeats were at the hands of Paper Rex and Wolves Esports.
With both now reaching the upper bracket final, the unlikely premonition is eerily close to proving true.
