It was another full day in Philippine MLBB esports as both of the matches of MPL PH S15 Playoffs Day 2 went to the full stretch, similar to the first day yesterday. Both ONIC Philippines (ONIC PH) and Team Liquid PH are now one match away to the first spot of Grand Finals, as well as a sure ticket to MSC 2025 x EWC in Riyadh. Meanwhile, Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons still have a chance in the lower brackets to move on to face the loser of the match mentioned to grab the second spot.
ONIC PH powered through a do or die match yesterday against the unpredictable Twisted Minds with the series having extended to 5 full games. A lot of analysts deemed the series as a quick 3-0 in favor of ONIC PH but Twisted Minds really surprised everyone, especially ONIC PH, almost making the biggest upset in the history of MPL PH.
After their defeat, Twisted Minds’ coach, Bonn “Bon Chan” Ricaplaza posted in his social media a heartwarming message to his players and here’s what he has to say:
“Not the result that we wanted, but hey! I’m still proud of you guys.. Alam naman natin malakas onic individually and as a team, but as long as we trust each other, nothing is impossible. (We all know that onic is very strong individually and as a team, but as long as we trust each other, nothing is impossible.) Nothing to be ashamed of.. See yah next season!”
As ONIC PH moves on to match up against Aurora Gaming, we are given a rematch of last season’s grand finals. The match was said to be a toss up between the two teams as they are really equal in their caliber of skills. They didn’t disappoint fans as this match also went through the distance going to a full 5 game series. You can really tell that both teams really went for it and were locked in since they did not let their leads in each game go to waste. They exchanged leads throughout the entire series and what it took for them to win each game was a margin of mistake in the beginning until the other team snowballed to victory.
In the end, ONIC PH won the final game with Brusko’s signature Chou pick, disabling the enemy jungler, Demonkite, from even contesting the neutral objectives. With that, ONIC PH is one match away from defending their title to become the 3rd team to win the title consecutively in MPL Philippines history.
On the other side of the bracket, we have Team Falcons also making their way to the upper bracket semi finals to match up against Team Liquid PH, the top seed of the regular season. Team Falcons fought against TNC Pro Team yesterday, which also extended to 5 full games, similar to the first match of ONIC PH and Twisted Minds. This was TNC’s return appearance in the playoffs, ever since season 9 of MPL PH, which was their goal from the start of the season. In the end, Team Falcons was the better team, which ends TNC’s journey for this season.
With Team Falcons moving on to face the top seed, Team Liquid PH, another rematch of a grand finals from a previous season, season 13, was given to the fans. The last time that these two encountered each other in a grand final match was the Grand Finals for the Philippine representative in the upcoming International Esports Federation 2025 (IESF) for men’s MLBB.
During that time, Team Liquid PH immediately scored 2 games against Team Falcons, but they were reverse swept with Team Falcon’s grit. This time, the same result happened but Team Falcons were the ones to experience the losing end of the reverse sweep. Team Liquid really showed resiliency through sheer power from 0-2 deficit, to winning the series, ending full of emotions during the interview. Team Liquid’s Coach Ar Sy felt very emotional as the hosts asked him a few questions.
With this, the stage for the first ever Grand Final slot is set with ONIC Philippines up against Team Liquid PH tomorrow on May 30, 2025. We will see another installation of the rivalry between Kelra and Oheb in the series, where the two will face off once again to prove who’s the strongest. MPL PH S15 Playoffs will continue tomorrow with ONIC PH vs Team Liquid at 3:00 PM GMT+8, followed by the elimination match between Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons at 7 PM GMT+8.
