Korean esports organization T1 has collaborated with the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO) to create a commemorative medal to honor Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. The League of Legends GOAT will receive his medal, celebrating his legendary career through a unique collectible.
KOMSCO will be issuing the “Commemorative Medal” to celebrate Faker’s birthday, which will be on May 7. The medals will be on sale starting on May 7 at 10 a.m. through KOMSCO’s official website, T1 base camp, and the Hyundai dotcom. Two versions of the Faker medal will be sold, one in gold and one in silver.
A total of 507 gold medals will be produced (note that 507 represents Faker’s birthday, May 07), each weighing 15.55 grams and measuring 32 mm in diameter. The gold medal will have a selling price of 3.65 million won (~€2,326). The silver medal, instead, will have a price tag of 365,000 won (~€232.63) and a diameter of 40mm. The silver medals will have 2,000 pieces sold.
Each medal will feature a portrait of Faker on the front, sitting on a throne, symbolizing his status as the greatest League of Legends esports player. On the back, there are the iconic five stars representing the five world championships Faker won with T1.
Aside from the five world championships, Faker is known for winning 10 domestic titles as well as the gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. The victory in the League of Legends discipline has exempted Faker from the mandatory military service.
On top of his incredible results in the competitive scene, Faker is known for his professional attitude and perseverance. Having debuted in 2013, Faker has been playing at the top level for over a decade, making T1 the most popular team in the world.
Faker previously gave his fans a sneak peek of the medal during a live stream, while T1 posted a behind-the-scenes video to showcase the creation process of the medal, highlighting the attention to detail and the importance of Faker’s career in shaping the esports industry and League of Legends scene.
This is yet another tribute to Faker’s legacy after he became the first player to be introduced in Riot Games’ Hall of Legends in 2024.
T1 has shared a behind-the-scenes look at the intricate process behind the creation of the medal, highlighting the craftsmanship and attention to detail involved in paying homage to one of esports’ most iconic figures. More than just a collector’s item, the medal stands as a physical tribute to Faker’s career and the countless unforgettable moments that have shaped modern competitive gaming.
This initiative is the latest in a series of honors for Faker, who continues to define the standard for greatness in esports. As a reminder, he was the first player inducted into the Hall of Legends in 2024. The second Hall of Legends inductee player will be revealed later this year.
