The second week of LEC Versus Playoffs extended from February 20 to February 23, featuring six BO3s and one BO5. These matches resulted in four teams eliminated, G2 Esports qualifying for the Grand Final, and the four teams locked in for the Finals in Barcelona.

Team Heretics, Fnatic, Natus Vincere, and Team Vitality are out and won’t return to the Rift until Spring. GIANTX, Karmine Corp, G2, and Movistar KOI will clash this weekend (February 27 to March 1) to crown the LEC Versus champion and Europe’s sole representative at First Stand.

A One-Sided Opening Day

The weekend kicked off with a BO3 between NAVI and Movistar KOI, delivering two one-sided games in favor of the Spanish side despite high expectations for a clash of titans. In game 1, top laner Alex “Myrwn” Villarejo shone with a counterpick Ornn, a comfortable answer to Rumble, while AD carry David “Supa” García cleaned up fights on Ezreal to secure the win for his team.

Game 2 saw NAVI draft around a Dr. Mundo jungle, a strategy that ultimately failed to deliver. On the other side, support Álvaro “Alvaro” Fernández del Amo posted a flawless 100% kill participation on Lulu. After a shaky regular season, MKOI secured its ticket to Barcelona in convincing fashion.

The second series featured a clash between two heavyweights of the league: the favorites and best regular season team, KC, against a G2 side that had looked average in best-of-ones.

In Game 1, Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik was monstrous on Gwen, dealing 43% of his team’s total damage. One particularly impressive moment was the Top Father’s turnaround against the Blue Wall’s dive attempt, pure composure under pressure.

Game 2 was far more contested, a 50-minute banger, and this time the spotlight belonged to Europe’s GOAT, Rasmus “Caps” Winther, who delivered a high-level Ryze performance. The game ended spectacularly with a base race, both teams hitting the enemy Nexus at the same time. In the end, G2 came out on top.

Fnatic Hit a Wall

The second day was all about eliminations. First, GIANTX knocked out Heretics in what was the first three-game BO3 of these playoffs. Game 1 was fairly even between the two sides, before GX pulled ahead after the 20-minute mark.

Game 2 was initially in GX’s favor, as they built up a 6K gold lead by the 30-minute mark before starting to lose their grip on the game. It was above all a huge Gnar performance from Sebastian “Tracyn” Wojtoń that kept his team alive.

Unfortunately, Game 3 turned into a complete stomp, not once were Heretics able to fight on equal footing, and they ultimately fell to their compatriots.

The second BO saw Kaan “Naak Nako” Okan once again prove that he is undeniably one of the best top laners in the league. He secured first blood on Panagiotis “Empyros” Tantis, snowballed from there, and finished as the top damage dealer on Gnar. The script did not change for Game 2, with the Turkish top laner delivering another strong performance to eliminate Fnatic.

The Giant Blue Wall Takes Down the Yellow Teams

Sunday saw GIANTX and KC eliminate NAVI and Team Vitality in two tightly contested BO3s. The first one initially went NAVI’s way, as they opened the score. In Game 2, they were in a strong position and came close to knocking GX out.

However, GIANTX managed to mount a comeback to keep themselves alive, before ultimately closing out Game 3 behind a massive Aatrox performance from Ismaïl “ISMA” Boualem.

On their side, KC also dropped the opening game of the series, largely due to a strong Ezreal performance from Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság. In Game 2, Naak Nako pulled out Yasuo and even solo-killed Kim “Canna” Chang-Dong. The game remained close, but KC’s carries eventually stepped up to even the series.

For the deciding game, the Bees opted for a rather flippy composition that completely fell apart, as they were stomped in just 25 minutes.

G2 Ramping Up

To close out this week of LEC action, the very first BO5 of the league took place, pitting G2 against KOI. Expectations were for a tight series between the two best teams in the league so far, but that was far from the case. The Samurai obliterated their opponents, completing a clean sweep in just over an hour and a half of play.

Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan delivered a huge performance in Game 1 on Zaahen and also impressed on Jarvan IV with great Cataclysms in the second. Game 3 was the closest contest of the series, with the Spaniards holding nearly a 2.5K gold lead.

Despite a solo kill from Caps on Joseph Joon “Jojopyun” Pyun early in the game, the Canadian midlaner quickly returned to lane and returned the favor, but the game, like the series, swung in G2’s hands. G2 have now locked their tenth consecutive LEC final and will play the grand final in Barcelona on March 1.
