Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming update in League of Legends, Patch 26.9, the first update of LoL Season 2.
League of Legends Patch 26.9 – Good balance across the game
Patch 26.8 was a small patch with only a couple of changes. Riot had previously explained that the lack of influential changes was due to the release of Season 2, which is coming with not only champion buffs and nerfs, but also system changes, including new items and runes. Additionally, Riot has also confirmed the implementation of WASD controls in Ranked play, as well as changes to Arena.
For the upcoming update, the devs are bringing two new Doran starting items, tailored to bruisers/tanks and marksmen. Moreover, there will be the addition of new MS boots that come with Omnivamp, which can be utilized by many champions in the game. Find all the latest number changes in the section below.
LoL Patch 26.9 is also expected to have larger scope champion changes, according to Riot Games designer Matt “Riot Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison. So far, the team has unveiled planned buffs to some champion’s offmeta builds, such as AP Xin Zhao, AD Kennen, and AP Ezreal. For skins, Riot Games has four skins coming our way.

When is LoL Patch 26.9 released?
League of Legends Patch 26.9 will be reaching the live servers on April 29, 2026, according to the official patch schedule. After the release, players will have to wait two more weeks before a new update, with the next one releasing on May 13.
What are the most impactful changes of Patch 26.9?
While we don’t have the entire patch update out, there are some interesting changes, especially when it comes to the starting items. The introduction of Doran’s Helm and Doran’s Bow might shake up things a lot in early-game interactions, especially in top lane and bot lane. This, paired with the new Omnivamp boots (Gluttonous Greaves) can open up to many new interactions.
The Voltaic Cyclosword and Statikk Shiv rework are also worth looking at and could become more popular choices moving forward. Dusk and Dawn continues to be a popular item and the healing part is a decent trade-off for the loss of stats, and should bring it in a more balanced state.
On the champion side of things, Riot’s goal was to target unconventional build paths, but I don’t see any of them becoming the popular choice. The only outliar could be Ezreal who is getting some absurd numbers, although AP Ezreal has always been a hit-or-miss in previous seasons.
