League of Legends Patch 25.10 is coming with a series of changes to the AP item system. According to some of the leaks by Riot Games designers, almost all AP items will be adjusted. Here’s a breakdown of all the buffs and nerfs and what this means to the overall meta, with a focus on professional play.
Patch 25.09 marks the start of Season 2. Aside from the new Spirit Blossom theme, Riot Games has worked on several game-wide changes that are set to shift the meta heavily.
One of the main changes is the objective pacing caused by the removal of the first Void Grubs spawn.
I believe this change is quite impactful in professional play and has been slightly overshadowed by the consolidation of Atakhan (only one version will spawn going forward).
While professional teams used to play for Voidgrubs often as a trade-off to the enemy team playing around the first dragon spawn, the delayed spawn time for the objective in the Baron pit will now mean teams must work around neutral objectives in a completely new way.
This essentially has two repercussions. First, teams will be given more time to make ganks and plays around lanes in the laning phase, leading to more creative pathing and game plans. Second, we are likely going to see teams contesting dragons more often in the early game, meaning that bot and mid lane priority will go up: finding matchups and combos that allow you to dictate the pace should become more important.
Void Grubs will now spawn later in the game and only once per match ‼
Additionally, the Rift Herald will now spawn at minute 15 and will be easier to take down with the removal of the Shelly’s Gaze debuff. pic.twitter.com/XQip82pO5h

We’ll still have to wait a bit more to find out how teams will tackle the new changes, but we should see a shift in this direction from the best teams in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, League of Legends Patch 25.10 will also be shifting the power of some AP items and, indirectly, champions. The goal was to make each archetype build more balanced against each other and more satisfying, according to game designer Riot Phroxzon. Assassin and fighter items will be speaker with worse scaling while control and artillery mage will spike more at two items.
Among the leaked list, the main ones I’m looking at are Bloodletter’s Veil, Horizon Focus, and Lich Bane.
The first one is actually an underrated item that works best with AP bruisers, and with the decrease of the max stacks needed to shred magic resistance, it will be much more impactful in the mid-game fights.
Horizon Focus is getting a bit more expensive, but you’re also getting 35 additional raw ability power, which is perfect for long-range poke champions. It’s always better to get flat stats.
For Lich Bane, on the other hand, the lower cost will have major consequences for the two-item power-spike: even though you’re losing out on total ability power, getting access to the completed item early will be a much greater advantage, especially when snowballing.
In the latest patch preview, Riot Phroxzon expressed their satisfaction with the changes in the current patch, stating it ‘landed really well’.
Moreover, the new player behavior system is working as intended and the game devs’ focus will be to slowly release highly accurate detections to get close to 0 false positives.
