It’s rough times for Fnatic. Despite making it to the top eight at the end of the regular season, the team has been struggling with finding convincing results, and the team was dominated by NAVI in the first round of the LEC Versus Playoffs. After the match, we sat down with FNC support player Park ‘Lospa’ Joon-hyeong to hear what the issues are, why the team is not performing up to expectations, and who he looks up to among the support pros.

Davide: Unfortunately, you guys weren’t able to take the victory. Before we talk about the series, I kind of wanted to ask you about this past week, as there was quite a tense atmosphere after the end of the regular season. We saw it through the vlog video that Fnatic put out earlier today.

What was the preparation like? Did you guys change anything in terms of the approach coming into this series?

Lospa: Our problem is still [on the] early game. We wanted to improve on [the] early game and we really focused a lot on [it] and then especially today first game, I think we played pretty well, but we didn’t end up playing [that] well. So I think we should still work on it.

Davide: What do you think? Was it like a lack of communication, or was it mainly mechanical misplay?

What do you think was the key thing that influenced the series?

Lospa: I can’t tell you specifics because we need to review as well. But I think we didn’t talk enough. I think [it was] the early game and I think we need to fix it.

Davide: How are you finding yourself with Upset (Elias Lipp)? He told us that you kind of needed more time to find synergy and click with one another.

How do you think that has been going for you so far?

Lospa: We wanted to play more aggressive in [the] laning phase. So in [the] first game, I think we played pretty aggressively. We took Corki’s barrier in early levels and then got prio, but we didn’t end up well, so yeah.

And what do you think about the other teammates? How is your relationship with all the other three members?

Lospa: First of all, top, I think he’s a very kind person. He’s a gentleman. And jungle Razork (Iván Martín Díaz), he’s a very funny guy. Also, Vladi (Vladimiros Kourtidis) is a very funny guy. And then, Upset is my bot lane teacher. And then he’s also very polite, and I learned a lot from him.

Davide: How are the coaches?

Lospa: I think GrabbZ (Fabian Lohmann) is also very fun, but he also gave me a lot of motivation during this season. Gaax (Pablo Vegas Pérez) was also a support player back then, so I learned a lot from him, especially in the laning phase, and then how to move or how to open the map.

Davide: Aside from the gameplay side of things,

Is there anything else on a personal level that you want to work on specifically?

Lospa: I think sometimes I need to focus on where to open better, which side. I think because I’m still having some problems… like if I need to help Upset or I need to help Razork. It depends on the game, of course, but I need to make a better decision about this.

Davide: Going a little bit outside of the series. I wanted to ask you something particularly pertinent to you. You played in South Korea before.

How do you think the regions (LEC and LCK CL) differ?

Lospa: Yeah, to be honest, I think both regions are really good and I can’t tell which region is better or what the differences are, but I think [the LEC] is a really good region. I think they’re really good, all players, I think, and I need to be [on the] same level right now.

Is there any player that you think stood out to you (so far)?

Lospa: For me, I think Jun, Alvaro, and Labrov. Parus is also really good.

Davide: You previously shared in another interview that you had a rough time making it to pro play.

What convinced you to keep on going despite not having the support from your parents? And do you have any tips for anyone who could be in a similar situation?

Lospa: I just really love this job, and I really love playing with other people. Everyone is really passionate and very good people.

I think if you really love to play games, you should just go for it.

Davide: Before rounding off the interview. Is there any particular support player that you look up to or you try to take inspiration from?

Lospa: For me, it’s CoreJJ.

Davide: Why is that?

Lospa: Because I really liked him since like five or six years ago, when I was in Gen.G. I think he’s really good. He has some age right now, but he’s still really good. So I want to be like him.

Is there anything that you would like to add or say to the fans?

Lospa: I mean, we’re having a rough time right now, I think, and we didn’t perform well. But thank you for supporting us and I hope we can get better. And then for the next match, I think I promise you guys we will play better than this. Thank you.
