The first of the four quarterfinal matches of Worlds 2025 kicked off with an LCK civil war, as Gen.G faced off against Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in the LCK Finals rematch. A showdown all too familiar for these two LCK titans; HLE looked to take the revenge victory of their bitter loss in the LCK finals, but history repeated itself once again, as Gen.G took the series 3-1 and moved on to the semifinals. Here’s how the community reacted to the series.

Peanut’s Last Dance: The Community Reacts to Gen.G’s win over HLE

T1 vs Gen.G is… Inevitable?

Gen.G’s semifinal opponents will be the winner of KT Rolster and CTBC Flying Oyster. However, fans are already predicting Gen.G to make it to the finals due to their supreme display of dominance over their opponents in their Worlds run, only dropping a total of two games. Furthermore, due to Gen.G facing all eastern teams on their run so far, the community firmly believes that Gen.G has all the warm up they need to consistently perform at a level far above their competition.

With T1 being on the other side of the quarterfinals bracket, some fans say ‘the script has been written’, indicating the two rivals face off once again in the grand finals. However, Gen.G’s win over HLE convinced most of the community that Gen.G’s premier ability to pilot their champions remains unmatched, further solidifying them as the strongest contender for the coveted Summoner’s Cup.

“The Last Nut” – The Final ROX Tiger’s Last Dance

As announced by the player himself earlier this year, the 2025 season marked HLE’s jungler, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho’s final run as a professional player. Fans were quick to jokingly dub his final run, “The Last Nut”. Not only were they sad to say goodbye, but the community also saluted the final active player from the legendary ROX Tigers roster for over 10 years of his professional career.

Peanut retired to serve his country in conscription for all South Korean male nationals, which will take roughly 18-21 months of his time. Whether or not he will come back into LoL Esports afterward remains to be seen, but the community certainly remains hopeful for his return.
