Fortnite’s new Chapter has a load of great features, and one that’s quite niche, probably not for long-time players, yet has been turned on for some reason for a lot of players. The Simple Build in Fortnite is a new setting which is supposed to make building easier for some players, and has just had a weird effect on a lot of others. If you’ve found your builds have gotten weird and unresponsive since the new Chapter, you might need to turn off simple build in Fortnite.

How to Turn Off Simple Build in Fortnite

It’s a weird setting. What’s more, logging in players got hit by a big screen trumpeting it. It didn’t matter if you wanted to turn it on or not, this screen kind of got in the way. So, a ton of players might have accidentally seen it get turned on, without intending it to. What’s more, it’s quite a disruptive setting.

If you play a game with it turned on, you’ll likely run into a few problems. Your builds won’t be responsive. If you don’t catch it in time, you’ll be in a game, likely under pressure, and unable to build properly. This is how it works and how to turn off simple build in Fortnite:

How to Turn Off Simple Build in Fortnite

If you’ve had Simple Build turned on by mistake, it’s really easy to fix. You can do this in the lobby, or in a game, it doesn’t really matter. Although you’ll need to be quick in a game. These kind of changes are a lot easier just to make in the lobby before you get involved. All you need to do is head into your Fortnite settings, then do this:

  • Go into the Game section
  • Then Building
  • The first setting is Simple Build, switch it to of.
  • Click Apply
  • Then leave the settings page

That’s all you really need to do. Once it’s finished up, you have Simple Build in Fortnite turned off. Your builds should be back to normal and work with the old inputs once you’re in a game.

What is Simple Build?

That’s how you can turn off Simple Build in Fortnite, but what is it? It’s a new system for builds in-game. This is using the same terms as Simple Edits, but for Builds. It’s a setting which a familiar system to that editing one, where it auto-builds for you. Kind of.

It’s a setting which aims to give players newer to the game the chance to play without learning to crank. It is a two-input version of builds.

The Simple Build in Fortnite setting will auto build a piece depending on where you’re looking. If you look upward, it’ll be stairs. If you look lower, it’ll be a roof. That’s for the first input, the second will build a wall, just auto building one.

It might be a setting which is easier for newer players. If you’re experienced though, it’ll probably be incredibly unintuitive. The game gets players used to using whatever they build they want, to limit it to where you’re looking probably holds players back a bit. But if you practise enough, it’ll likely make sense eventually. Simple Build in Fortnite isn’t ever going to be competitive for esports BR though.

The setting is a little less helpful than Simple Edits. That cut out a whole screen. It took away precision from the editing screen, in exchange for simplicity, auto-select an edit for you to use based on your cursor. However, Simple Build doesn’t really simplify things. It does auto-build.. but uses nearly as many inputs as just building. For those who get really turned around using the building screen, it’ll be useful, but it’s a strange feature.

Which can make it a little frustrating that it’s been randomly turned on for a bunch of players. Hopefully, they get it turned off before getting involved in tournaments like the Unreal Cup. Why has it been turned on for some players by mistake?

Why is it Turned On?

If you log in to the new Chapter, the addition of Smart Build in Fortnite can’t be missed. It splashes a huge page about it all over the screen. Which is why some players have seen it turned on by mistake.

If you got hit by this screen, then just spammed clicking and keys to try and get through to actually play, then it could have been turned on. In a rush to get into a game a little quicker, a lot of players hit the wrong button here.

The screen wouldn’t go away without you picking an option, which might not have been clear. If you’ve accidentally turned off Smart Build in Fortnite, then it is pretty easy to turn back off though!
