Veteran Dota 2 player Yap “xNova” Jian Wei is set to make his return to top-tier competition, standing in for Xtreme Gaming at the upcoming Clavision Masters 2025 tournament. The Malaysian support player will temporarily replace Wilson “poloson” Koh, who is out with a hand injury.
For xNova, this marks a significant comeback to LAN competition at the highest level. He was a mainstay in international events, having played for teams like PSG.LGD and RNG throughout his career.
However, xNova has been largely absent from Tier 1 play, following a brief stint in Europe with OG. The experimental lineup failed to gel, and the roster quickly broke up with xNova returning to Asia. Most recently, he played for Azure Ray in the Chinese qualifiers for The International 2025 alongside Lu “Somnus” Yao, but failed to qualify at the hands of Xtreme Gaming.
Now, he’ll be back on stage – this time under the banner that ruined his chances to qualify for The International, as the Chinese squad aims to battle elite international competition in their home country.
xNova will be stepping into the shoes of poloson, Xtreme Gaming’s position five support. He is reportedly suffering from tendonitis. While the injury isn’t career-threatening, the organization ultimately decided that poloson should skip the Clavision tournament to rest and recover.

It is unclear how long poloson will be sidelined for, and whether he’ll return in time for the start of The International 2025. Since debuting in 2012, poloson has yet to qualify for The International. That changed this year, when Xtreme Gaming secured their spot. It would be a massive blow for poloson should he miss out on such a career milestone.
With the substitution in place, Xtreme Gaming will play at the Clavision Masters 2025 tournament in front of the home crowd with the following roster:
With five out of six names starting with the letter ‘x’, Wang “Ame” Chunyu better watch his back before getting kicked for not fitting the Xtreme Gaming brand.
Jokes aside, xNova reunites with both Ame and coach Zhang “xiao8” Ning – his former PSG.LGD teammates from The International 2018, where the trio came heartbreakingly close to lifting the Aegis by finishing second in one of the most legendary TI finals ever.
This iteration of Xtreme Gaming will debut at Clavision Masters 2025, a $700,000 event scheduled to take place in Zhangjiakou, China. The tournament is filled with top contenders, including Gaimin Gladiators, Tundra Esports, BetBoom Team, and PARIVISION.
For xNova fans such as myself, we’ll get a chance to see him back on the main stage, even if just for three days. For Xtreme Gaming, it’s a great way to prove themselves in front of local fans – and for poloson, it’s a bittersweet moment to watch from the sidelines. Catch all the action from July 28 to 30!
