With the arrival of new hero Kez comes Crownfall Act 4 — the long-awaited final chapter of the ongoing Dota 2 story event. The event itself has been around since April 18th, 2024, and tells the story of the Skywrath, a race of sentient avian creatures in the Dota 2 universe. The Skywrath hail from the Ghastly Eyrie, the race’s capital city and the seat of power for the Skywrath monarch.

Both Dragonus, the Skywrath Mage, and Shendelzare, the Vengeful Spirit, are playable examples of the Skywrath — and also happen to be two central figures in the Crownfall plot. If you’re new to Dota 2 or haven’t been playing since Crownfall dropped in April, we’re here to get you up to speed on it and the specifics of Act 4.
What Crownfall is and How to Play It
Crownfall ties in heavily with Dota lore and focuses on the reign of Imperia, current queen of the Skywrath and the Ghastly Eyrie. In the beginning of Crownfall, Imperia has banned the worship of the goddess Scree’auk, prompting Shendelzare (or Shen for short) to seek out the Flightless (allies of the Skywrath) in order to overthrow Imperia herself.
This is also when it was revealed that Imperia happens to be Shen’s sister, and likely the one that who cast her out from the Ghastly Eyrie in the past.

For those that played it, Crownfall is very similar to Cavern Crawl. By playing different heroes and completing different in-game tasks, players earn tokens that they can spend on each Crownfall act’s map in order to advance and earn rewards. Unlike Cavern Crawl, though, Crownfall only has one linear path per act.
How long is Crownfall Act 4?
Crownfall Act 4, the final act in the story, runs from November 8th, 2024 to January 15th, 2025. Players will have until then to earn tokens and get their rewards, so you’ll want to make sure you participate in the minigames and all before the year turns.
Fortunately, those that haven’t been playing since Act 1 released can still make their way through the previous acts with the tokens they have on hand. So if you’re a returning player, don’t fret — there’s still plenty of time for you to catch up!

Act 4 in particular brings new rewards such as an alternate style for Skywrath Mage and another for Vengeful Spirit’s Arcana. Those inclined can also purchase the Skywrath Pathfinder Pack from the store, which unlocks two Act 4-specific sidequests and additional rewards, such as custom Skywrath tower skins.
