Tournament organizer ESL, alongside their partner DHL, have announced Tales from the Lorekeeper, an upcoming animated series that focuses on the lore and backstory surrounding Dota 2. An offshoot or “fresh take” on perennial stage host Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner’s Loregasm series on YouTube, Tales from the Lorekeeper will focus mainly on individual heroes.

ESL One Bangkok: What is Tales from the Lorekeeper?

The series was revealed in a 30-second teaser trailer at ESL One Bangkok, featuring in-game sisters Lina and Crystal Maiden. Curiously, the trailer in question seems to be unavailable for viewing anywhere on the internet as of the time of writing.

Each episode of the show will feature a hero voted upon by the Dota 2 community, via a dedicated webpage on DHL’s InMotion website. As of the announcement, the heroes available for voting are Dawnbreaker, Hoodwink, Lone Druid, Silencer, and Sven.

Fan votes mean prizes

The fun with the fan votes doesn’t just stop at the votes themselves, though. ESL and DHL are giving away a Genuine Ice Baby Roshan cosmetic worth €1,000 to one lucky voter.

Casting your ballot is completely free, so there’s no reason to miss out on the chance to win such a valuable in-game item.

What is Loregasm, anyway?

As mentioned, Loregasm is the personal project of SirActionSlacks, where he posts deep dive videos into the overarching plot of Dota 2. Loregasm has been going on for seven years now, though Slacks did take a three-year break from uploading videos in 2020 before resuming in 2023. The latest video, posted August last year, talks about the New Frontiers update, which came with Patch 7.33.

Though the game itself is rather sparse on lore and doesn’t serve up much of it in typical matchmaking games, publisher and developer Valve Corporation has been stepping it up in this department lately. The ongoing event Crownfall is the latest example of this.

We’re hoping that Slacks does a Loregasm video on Crownfall soon, knowing how high the stakes are in the story itself. Even with Act IV already unlocked, there’s still plenty of things we don’t know about Queen Imperia and her exact motivations.
