As we get closer and closer to The International this year, Valve is ramping up the festivities — this time with some free (yes, free!) cosmetics in the form of Quartero’s Curios.

Legion Commander, Vengeful Spirit, and Witch Doctor are the first three heroes to receive new sets as part of Quartero’s Curios, though whether or not other heroes will also get some swag remains to be seen. The items on offer also include extra effects for things like Blink Dagger, Town Portal Scroll, Phase Boots, and more.

But which sweet skins are the best from this initial batch? I’m gonna count ’em down for you, so buckle in.

#10 — Drakon’s Deed Gauntlets (Legion Commander)

These gauntlets basically set Legion’s hands and arms on fire, making her look like a demon ready to do battle. This actually has a lot to do with the lore of the game, for it is said that Legion Commander herself knows how to speak Ozkavosh, the language spoken by demonic heroes like Shadow Fiend, Shadow Demon, and Terrorblade.

#9 — Papa Wanga’s Belt (Witch Doctor)

The gem set into the center of this loincloth-like belt is eye-catching, and so are the two gems adorning the two “tails” on the back. The leaves are a nice touch too, giving a real island feel to the piece overall.

#8 — Radiance FX

When a hero with equipped with this cosmetic item buys Radiance, they burn hotter than ever. As someone that likes playing carry Doom in this metagame, I think I’m going to really enjoy this one in particular.

#7 — Papa Wanga’s Staff (Witch Doctor)

The voodoo doll on the end of the staff moves! So cute. Wish it didn’t have to suffer the torture of being staked to Witch Doctor’s weapon, but ah well, it’s being used for a greater, darker purpose: to put the hurt on Witch Doctor’s enemies.

#6 — Morrigan’s Misery (Vengeful Spirit)

This skirt for Vengeful Spirit is one of the best designs I’ve ever seen for her outside of her Arcana. The color gradient flowing from dark purple to glowing blue is dazzling, and the end of the tail sections looking like feathers is a great nod to her old form as a Skywrath.

#5 — Lotus Orb FX

Sometimes I find it hard to keep track of whether or not a hero has the Lotus Orb buff on them in the heat of a teamfight.

I know that sounds like a huge skill issue on my part, which it probably is, but this visually enhanced Lotus Orb effect should help me. Or that’s just copium, I don’t know. It looks great nonetheless.

#4 — Drakon’s Ire Pauldrons (Legion Commander)

This breastplate for Tresdin looks foreboding enough in its sealed form (tier 1 on the home screen), but it looks downright diabolical with its flowing energy effects in its unleashed form. Definitely worth grinding levels for.

#3 — Papa Wanga’s Poppet (Witch Doctor)

Fancy having a little Witch Doctor minion as your Death Ward (R)? Well fear not, because you get this piece for free just by opening Dota! It’s the first item you get from Quartero’s Curios, and you don’t even have to suffer through pub games for it. It’s even playing a flute thing, complete with notes coming out of the instrument!

#2 — Drakon’s Deed Lance (Legion Commander)

Giving Legion Commander a flaming spear straight from the Seven Hells was a great idea, Valve. Full marks for this one, from the menacing shape of the blade itself to the fiery effects blanketing the head of the weapon.

#1 — Morrigan’s Malice (Vengeful Spirit)

As a fan of wrist-mounted weapons in RPGs like katars, Shendelzare’s new weapon is right up my alley. It looks awesome as hell, with the glowing gem at the base being the best feature along with the two fangs at the end.
