Returning AWPer phzy has suggested that Wildcard used ChatGPT to help the organization decide its recent slate of CS2 roster changes. After a short loan period with 9INE, phzy has been recalled to Wildcard’s active roster in time for their Fragville 2025 run, but he isn’t holding back in criticizing the organization on his return.
Wildcard’s bizarre run of roster moves in CS2 began at the end of June, when phzy and IGL stanislaw were surprisingly moved to the bench. Statistically, phzy had been Wildcard’s best player, while stanislaw was the leader who led the organization to its first two Major appearances. It was surprising, to say the least. In the background, rumblings of Sonic’s unhappiness raged on, while Peeping and fr3nd came into the active lineup. Results only got worse, and stanislaw was brought back after just three weeks on the bench. Then, phzy would spend a month on loan to 9INE before being recalled. That brings us to right now, when Sonic has been transferred to Wildcard and F1KU has arrived from OG to replace him.
It’s fair to say that Wildcard’s CS2 strategy has been a bit of a mess for a few months now, and prior to Fragville 2025, phzy has shed some insight on why in an interview with Dust2.us. When asked what Wildcard were thinking throughout their recent struggles, phzy said:
“I got asked to IGL and I said I wanted to focus on AWPing so it was pretty clear they wanted to cut stanislaw pretty fast. I’m not sure what they wanted to do, maybe they wanted to bring in more firepower but I’m not sure. We as players didn’t have much say, especially not me because I got benched. I’m not sure what happened, I heard ChatGPT was involved a bit with making suggestions for players…”
When pressed on whether he was being serious, phzy reiterated that he was not joking, saying, “From what I’ve heard, yeah.” Now, there’s no guarantee that Wildcard is using ChatGPT to make CS2 roster changes, so it should be taken with a pinch of salt. However, if what phzy has heard is correct, it could suggest some serious mismanagement at the organization, which is co-owned by Twitch streamer Amouranth.
The next few months will be interesting for Wildcard. At the time of writing, they are just one Americas slot away in the VRS from receiving an invite to the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, so their next month will be critical in deciding whether they make it over the line. It would be a fairly remarkable achievement if the players pulled it off, considering the roster upheaval of late.
