North Nix cadiaN, Welcome JUGi; valde Appointed IGL

Cody Luongo

The CS:GO roster for Danish esports organization, North, has parted ways with Casper “cadiaN” Møller and welcomed on Jakob “JUGi” Hansen as the team’s primary AWPer.

The departure of cadiaN ends an eight-month occupancy with the North wherein the Dane assisted the squad in reaching a number of playoff appearances as well as a title finish at the GG.Bet ICE Challenge. The Danish AWPer had elected to depart Rogue in September of last year to join forces with North and compete on his home soil of Denmark. Unfortunately, the roster failed to live up to the weighty expectations that were placed on them after they overcame Astralis at the Grand Finals of DreamHack Masters Stockholm.

JUGi, on the other hand, had remained dormant for quite some time on OpTic Gaming as the team opted to field a six-man roster where he was in contention with Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen for the primary AWPing role. Though JUGi’s more than year-long tenure with OpTic saw relatively limited success, he was instrumental in the prosperity the team was able to achieve over the course of that time.

The last component of the roster shuffle was that North’s top fragger Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså would be appointed the in-game leader position in place of cadiaN. The Danish rifler has been a key ingredient in North’s affluence since joining the team in August of 2017. His accolades with the team include first place finishes at DreamHack Open Montreal 2017 and DreamHack Open Valencia 2018, as well as the aforementioned DreamHack Stockholm and GG.BET ICE events.

Though valde is a star player in every sense of the term, his newest role as the team’s IGL will surely take some easing into. He shared the following statement on the official North website:

“I feel that the time has come for me to take on extra responsibilities within the team. Becoming an in-game leader and team captain is not a decision you make overnight. It’s something I’ve thought about many, many times during my career and I knew within myself that the day where I would make that transition was gonna come at one point but I certainly didn’t see it coming this early.

“I cannot promise you miracle-results overnight and there will definitely be bumps along the road, but what I can promise you is someone who’s willing to sacrifice what it takes to bring his team to the top. I really believe that my vision and leadership will take us there. I hope you guys will follow me on this journey. It would mean a lot to me.”

North’s current roster is now as follows:

Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså
Philip “aizy” Aistrup
Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjærbye
Nicklas “gade” Gade
Jakob “JUGi” Hansen

Torbjørn “mithR” Nyborg (coach)
